Exactly....a whole lot of cute in this competition but this one is just handsome. Would love to see even more.

I think the only thing to take away from this post is the statement that, "This is not a pitch for spending a lot of money [or spending no money], just for spending it consciously."

Spending money consciously is the key, thinking before buying, considering, mulling, etc, be it a $50,000 desk or a $300 sofa.

I'd say before you do anything...start making lists. Lists of things that have to be redone or replaced because they don't work or are about to die. Then a list of things that just drive you nuts whether or not it's about to die or is brand new. And then a list of things you'd just like to do if you have the money to spend on it. Not everything has to be done right away and in the middle of a redo, something else is bound to break so don't rush through it all. You never really finish decorating a house so try to enjoy the process and the more you accomplish the more you'll realize your tastes and styles are being more and more defined because you are exposing yourself to more and more things.

I would have been more concerned with the brick/drywall hybrid shelves on the other side...still useful and handy but that tiny little peek of brick just seems strange.

Even then, expect some haggling. I tried to sell a brand new daybed that wouldn't fit where I wanted it, said x amount firm and every response was but I'll give you $100 less because I have to drive from an hour away or I have to pay someone to haul it for me, etc. And a few times I've had people show up after agreeing on a price for them to say when they get there, I'm $20 short, is that okay?

I wouldn't want to use someone elses toothpaste if I forgot mine, wondering how long it has been there, how many people have rubbed their toothbrushed on it, wiped off the tops with their fingers, etc. Little travel sized items can be tossed when the guests leave or taken home with them. Otherwise, that's just gross.
