the funnel thing didn't work for me...but what DID work was placing APPLE CIDER VINEGAR in different containers, watered down a bit to save on costs, and you can choose to heat the apple cider vinegar up or leave it at room temp (my understanding is that the heat speeds the attraction of those buggers, as if the fermenting is getting hot and rotten). Shallower containers work better than larger ones (i.e. a coffee cup versus a tall glass, a petri dish size is ideal)

NOW, the next step is to fill another container with hot, soapy water so you have suds foaming at the top (make sure you are using a high quality sudsy soap). Now with your hand, scoop the foam out of the top and spread it all over the sides and top of the apple cider vinegar containers. It's also wise to put some of the bubbly on the counters next to it or surrounding the area. Soon the buggers will land, and either fly into the bubbles or walk over to them and get stuck.

I never had a single fly go down the funnel, but I have had tons of luck with having them fly into the bubbles and also drown themselves in the vinegar.

Try it, it really works - but it will take up to a week to get all of them taken care of, and MAKE SURE YOU FIND THE EGGS!!! I found mine in a trash can, an entire metroplex of larvae it was so disgusting. I bleached it and lysol'ed it after cleaning and disinfecting it. ANY PLACE WHERE THERE IS A FOOD SUPPLY FOR YOUNG LARVAE, EGGS WILL BE LAID so check there first! You can also choose to set up those sticky fly traps in addition to this trick. Hope this helps!
