As a fan of clean lines I love this kitchen and a few responses to other comments. This isn't a gut job. A gut job is when the whole room is changed dramatically most of the time structurally. Yes the cabinetry layout did change and they removed a wall however if you compare the before and after the basic mid century architecture was left in tact. Now the cabinetry is new but they like the old cabinets are flat panel. AT states that they are being true to the mid century architecture, which they were. I lived and loved a small mid century ranch for years but sometimes a family needs to update to function better in the space and a huge premise of mid century design was function. If they had removed all the details and put raised panel cherry cabinets in then maybe we could find issue but as I see it they did compliment the architecture they had. Maybe the period purists should stick to reading Atomic Ranch and not AT where spaces are improved upon all the time.

Long winded however - Bravo I love the space!

Just said goodbye last week to the first home I ever owned. I lived there for 12 years and renovated it from top to bottom myself. Many things happened to me during my time there. I even got married while living there. My husband and I said our tearful goodbyes but are thrilled to be starting the next phase of our lives as well as ambitious new projects.

I have the wall sconce version without the extension arm and hands down they are the best bedside reading lamps ever.

I actually went to high school with Joe, Mrs. Vodicka, his Mom, was my art teacher, actually one of my favorite teachers growing up. I remember seeing his art displayed in the studio from time to time and he was very talented. It is nice to see some things never change and you still have a unique and wonderful eye.

In St. Louis be sure to put City Museum on your list and shopping in the Central West End. It is mentioned in one of the Neighborhood guides links however Centro is not listed. For all of you modernists out there. You must visit Centro.

I used think he was awful however then I started really watching him. He has a very dry dark sense of humor and sometimes when you think he is at his worst he is really just messing with someone. That being said he has yet to do a space I don't love. I really appreciate his aesthetic and attention to detail.

The best was when Zoila was at war with the Roomba and Jeff said it was there to take her place. Hilarious!

The grand bazaar. It is crowded but it is something everyone must see. I can't give an exact place however the night life is great as well. At one night club I realized I was dancing among ancient Roman ruins. It was architecturally amazing!

Thank you Lane Design! Those are my thoughts exactly. This is just what our profession does not need. I have gotten to the point where I don't tell strangers what I do for a living because their comment is always "well you should come help me pick out some curtains for my kitchen". Like my work is free and easy. Anyone can do it! Or like this show is portraying that designers are ego maniacs and over priced. I design multi million dollar commercial and residential spaces for a living. My work is hard and my hours are long. Show how hard TRUE interior designers work and then maybe I will tune in.

My husband and I are about to do something similar. We have renovated our current home and are now looking for new challenges. The draw to DIY is just too strong sometimes. Good luck to them!

There are some on the Lewis & Sheron Textile Co. website. I did not find one exactly like the pillow above however there are some interesting options that may work for you.

This is a perfect example of the chair that was built for a purpose. That being keeping the valets (or door men) in manor homes from experience cold air drafts as they waited for visitors to arrive in large entry halls. They were meant to feel closed off and in turn created an intimate closed in space. It is like putting a screen around a seating area to create privacy. If you want something fancy with an enclosed feeling this is the chair for you.

Edward Wormley Walnut Surfboard Coffee Table - More than I wanted to pay that day while thrifting but I had been searching for something just like it for over a year and this one had design pedigree. I still sigh when I see it :)

I have to say I always loved the Otho designed house in Beetlejuice. I knew it was supposed to be one of the worst things the new owners did but I still found it intriguing.
My other favorite Todd and Margo's home in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. It was very 80's contemporary as opposed to the sleek modernist James Bond aesthetic but still the message was there modern=evil :)

Proud to be evil and modern!

I too have the Eames Sofa Compact and it is great for small spaces but it is VERY HEAVY! Talking it down stairs can make up for a month of exercise.

Hello Everyone!

Thanks for all of the kind words. Shane and I really enjoyed getting to share the space. It did take some dedicated weekends to take it from traditional country cottage to what it is now but I loved the whole process.

Shane is right about us cluttering it up when we are staying there and when guests are there every surface is covered with food, games, books, dog toys, etc. I wish I could say my spaces were that neat all the time but the STL home is chaos most of the time.

Midwestern Mom - the lamp is from Marshall's and I think I may have seen it at Homegoods as well.

Plink - As my husband said in his post I did the paintings in the dining room. I just can't get enough typography and the lyrics always bring me back to my childhood summers at the lake.

BigTab - The barstools are vintage from a store in St. Louis, Big Bend Antiques. This is one of my favorite sources. Quite a few of our second hand items are from there.

cmeadows - I'm glad someone posted about the fireplace. It was actually one of the major selling points of the home. Those rocks are the real deal. Full stones and mini boulders that the original builders pulled up from the lake, carted up the hill, and put in place. So much work went into them and the kicker is we have two in the house!

Thanks again for all the lovely comments and to Apartment Therapy for showing our space. We still have more to do and we hopefully will get a website up someday soon with photos of all the work that went into making the lakehouse possible. We feel so fortunate to have a cozy home away from home.

I design hotels for a living. I have my installers glue everything decorative down in our lobbies. We had someone come into one or our historic properties and make an attempt to steal a bronze statue. He made a break for it on foot but realized it was too heavy to run with. He ditched it a block away. We have also had people cut oil paintings directly out of their frames. People amaze me sometimes.
