The author's comment about facebook should not go unnoticed. Why is it ok to post personal photos on the internet (the epitome of public spaces) but not in your living room? It seems that in our internet-centered world, most people will have already seen your family photos before they even know where you live.
I'd be interested to see the results of a study on the quality of family relationships in relation to where people display family photos.

I live in a small apartment and don't have any of these items. Mostly because I'd like to wait until I buy a house to purchase good furniture; also because I once spent 6 months in Italy with only a suitcase full of clothing and the furniture that came with my apartment and it was the best 6 months of my life. I didn't have to spend time thinking or worrying about "things".
I also don't have a television because anything I watch, I can see online. I think your home should make you feel comfortable and too much clutter makes me feel anxious. Some people though, love to be surrounded things.
Another trick for living without a dresser is under the bed storage containers. They keep clothing clean and out of sight.

lizzykewl, I agree. How incredibly fortunate we are to have shelter over our heads, friends who invite us into their homes and the luxury to choose and buy items for our homes.

Most fridge shelves are removeable so you shouldn't be wasting energy by allowing the door to hang open while you clean.

I love my stemless crackle wine glasses from Pier 1: http://www.pier1.com/Catalog/Dining/tabid/977/CategoryId/113/ProductId/5875/ProductName/Crackled-Wine-Glasses/Default.aspx
They're great for reds but not so much whites as the whites get warm from holding the glass rather than the stem.
Pier 1 also makes champagne flutes and martini glasses in this style. Just be sure to get the flat rim rather than the angled rim. It's hard to not spill when drinking from the angled rim...especially once you get past the third glass or so.

There are so many things about this house that I love! My favorites are the wall hanging and the big dog on the living room floor.

Perhaps my favorite apartment on AT so far! It looks so cozy. I could imagine myself curled up on that sofa with a blanket, a mug of tea, a book and the cat on my lap.
