Have any of you ever seen a bathroom trash can (or trash can-like canister for that matter) that has a latch on it? Kind of like an old mason jar I guess. We have 3 cats and any trash can we've put in our bathroom so far ends up all over our apartment in the morning. I would stash it under our sink, but there isn't enough room in our tiny bathroom. Any ideas?

The first thing we did in our apartment was set up the bedroom. There really is nothing better than to sleep in your own bed. Then we got cats. Honestly, our place really didn't feel like home when it was empty. But I agree with the hanging art and setting up books thoughts. We didn't have much in the way of art, but setting up our bookshelves certainly added some colour and comfort.

I used to only turn the heat on slightly in the bedroom and leave it off throughout the rest of the house, which seemed to work pretty well for me, except now, our new apartment only has three heaters (one in each bedroom and one in the living room ) and they can't be controlled individually. My fiancé and I have decided to try and hold out for the whole winter if we can to try and save some money, although I have a feeling I'll come home one day to the thermostat cranked..

My take is a little different, while yes, it is old and beautiful the way it is, I can understand how frustrating it would be to have a piece such as this that just doesn't fit with your decor. I'm so sorry to everyone, but I would paint it. Unless I was looking to restore it and get some money out of it, I would change it to fit my home. But, this is just my opinion.

If all the milk crates were black, and right-side up, this would be a great storage console. I'm not a huge fan of the milk-crate look myself, but this has got to be the best look I've seen yet. As for the companies having to pay for each crate, I've never heard of that where I live. I've actually seen convenience stores and pizza joints sell off their old milk crates from time to time. Absolutely right though, definitely not without cost for this project.

Keep on the lookout for law firms that are moving or renovating. I got my 3, 5-shelf 6-footers for free from a firm that needed the space.

I wish we would have hired movers on our last move.. We had a week's notice that we were moving and so here I was, running all around town looking for spare boxes to pack up all of our stuff. Plus, we had items coming from all over town from family and friends trying to help out and my little car just couldn't take it all. We ended up borrowing a company van from my boyfriend's employer and enlisting both of our brothers. It took us almost a week to get absolutely everything together. It saved money, but certainly not time.
