Aside from the safe, we keep copies of all our important documents on a portable external hard drive. Which are safely stored with our emergency pack.

After reading the post I will be documenting all our belongings and adding the pictures to the file.

Considering that in NYC the majority of dwellings built before 1978 could possibly be contaminated with Lead dust, cleaning up after a renovation could be far more health threatening than a simple clean up would resolve. The effects on children are especially dangerous and the site should be monitored before during and after to maintain a safe environment. A HEPA Vacuum (even the exhaust is filtered) is recommended for cleanup not to be confused with A HEPA Filter.

"Starting April 22, a new federal law will require contractors to contain and clean lead dust more carefully during renovation, repair and painting work. Workers will have to attend training, and the firms will have to earn certification to do the work." -Lead Free NYC

The contrast between the walls and ceiling bring out the beam detail which is a nice element in the room. Color always makes a huge different. Although color is subjective, its only the inhabitant that has to be pleased with the outcome.

The painting technique needs improvement though :)

Many times we are called to a DIY self project gone wrong- It usually involves attempts to hang drapes but with no anchor or mounting a fixture in to the concrete ceiling. The end result is large chunks of drywall missing or re-plastering over all the cracks from hammering and drilling. What seems like a simple project can become frustrating and more costly with repairs added in.

Plus in NYC even the simplest part/tool/piece to get can take half a day to find.

We take our cat out randomly to meander on moon lite outings. She is shy so between foot traffic, buses and trucks daytime is to stressful. Plus our Boston Terrier gets really excited when we all go out.
