I don't know, this seems like a museum to me. The antique skis propped up like the person just stepped in from using them. The cloth-bound-books stacked on the writing table. Where's the vibrancy here? Where's the life?

@cei-face--my first thought was Creamed salmon and peas too! This was one of my top three favorite meals growing up. Looks very unappetizing but sooo good. Here's a recipe I found (looks very similar to the one I ate growing up)

My sister-in-law, who is an amazing cook, made these awhile back with a savory filling of blue cheese and crumbled, cooked bacon. They were out of this world! This is a great reminder to try my hand at them!

Wow thanks guys! I don't know her that well, so I don't really want to to call her up. Plus I feel like it would be making more of a nuisance about the whole thing rather than a nice gesture.

Lots of great ideas here. Cscanga-I make a great banana bread, love the idea of including this, mostly with her kids in mind. I also kind of like the quiche suggestion and the non-dinner food suggestion. I also just thought of meatloaf. My mom makes an awesome meatloaf and the flavors aren't overpowering or anything. Plus the kids would probably like it.

Thanks!

I love this. One thing though-I noticed the camping stove you have on the counter. Is this a propane stove? Aren't those dangerous to use inside because of the fumes?

Can I just say I love bathrooms with that kind of tiling? Many people wouldn't, but when I start looking to buy my own home, I would rather have a bathroom like that than a sleek modern one any day.

I agree- paint the brick black. Another thing you could do is replace the mantle with a chunky piece of wood that you could maybe stain.

We registered for a nice set of plates-not fancy china. Right now we don't have the space to store an extra set. I really like the plates we got, plus we got serving pieces to go with them. To answer binks question-I did have plates that my grandmother got for me when I first moved out on my own. They had colorful drawings of people eating in a french cafe-not exactly my style. So I had to get new plates for my wedding.

My grandmother is a compulsive shopper-I actually think that she is a bit of a hoarder. It is very overwhelming because everytime you see her you know you are going to get a boatload of crap. She has given me some very nice things but also many many things that are not my taste. I just give them to goodwill soon after I get them. Honestly she has given me so many knicknacks and kitchen goods that I don't think she remembers half the things anyway. I keep telling her I am all set for kitchen things and that I have a very small apartment but she doesn't listen. If your family is like mine you should just give stuff to goodwill too because there is no other way to deal with it. If they ask about it said you broke it or something. If your family is a little more open to reason maybe give them some direction, tell them to give you food gifts or gifts that would add to a collection of yours.

I actually just got one a few weeks ago! I have used it so far to grind spaces and mash avocado. I really want to try making pesto in it. I don't have a food processor, and I don't think I am going to get one. I have a blender, and now I have this. So far I love it.

Juice- I am not a vegetarian but to be honest it seems the older I get the less meat I eat. I guess it's for health/ecological reasons. But I would venture to say that there is a third class of vegetarians. In addition to those who do it for religious/ethical reasons and those who do it for health/ecological reasons there are some who seem to do it because they are simply too grossed out by meat. I have a friend like this. I honestly don't think it is anything but the fact that she is grossed out by meat, with the blood and the fat and the fact that is the meat of something that was once walking around. She does eat some fish but nothing in a shell (like lobster) and no sushi or raw or medium-cooked tuna for the same reason. Does anyone else fall into this category?
