After years of dealing with terrible upstairs neighbors (never again!) I finally got a top floor apartment. And I have 2, 3 and 4, as well. It's heaven.

The TV sticks out like a sore thumb. But I love the rest; the bits of yellow, blue and green. I love how the wall of closets blends in. The place feels spacious and light. Nicely done.

I like the kitchen, though the crooked cabinets make it look cheap. It would have been nice to see a photo of the living-room with drawn curtains, so we can judge the space and not the view.

If I had the money I'd live in West Village. If I had the money and kids I would live in Tribeca. If a day comes when I can't live in Manhattan anymore I will move to Los Angeles. Brooklyn is not an option for me, because I loathe the Subway. And I find Brooklyn generally a bit depressing, in a suburban kind of way.

When I first moved to NYC in the mid 90s that's what NY lofts looked like if you went to visit an artist's home. Artists didn't spend a whole lot of money on decoration and renovation since they didn't have any. Also, the obsession with home design didn't exist in all the levels of society as it does today. People seem to be more focused on material and "external" today regardless of how much money they make.

One a personal note, I bet I can have a more interesting conversation with this couple than with most people whose homes are featured here.

BTW, Minanina is spot on about Broadway in the 70s.

For those who asked, the old building was torn down. If you ask me it was ten times better looking (as run down as it was) then this new one, which doesn't look all that bad. I think what's ugly about it is the ground floor (absolutely nothing to look at as you walk pass the building) and the sidewalk around the building (it's just concrete).
There's a similar building to this one in Chelsea, Gehry' IAC building, which I find beautiful.
