Embarrassingly enough, I have gone to several bars and told them how to make the drink. Clearly some bars were not the right venue for requesting an unfamiliar recipe... but hey, I really like the drink. Thanks baker_d and DesignAddictBA! They are pretty... I've only seen them once or twice at cocktail bars/speakeasy type places. I agree with almost all of the above. In addition, sometimes I just don't like the ingredients, or the combination of ingredients. If the recipe uses too many "prepared" foods, it's out. I have recipe sources that I love and trust, and I always go to those first. If a recipe comes from somwhere else, I scrutinize it before getting excited. Like Angeline above, I usually use the flavors as guidelines and determine how I think the dish should be made. When Do You Trust (or Mistrust) a Recipe? I think the only meal I've prepared start to finish in 30 minuets is a stir-fry. And that's only using store-bought stir fry sauce. The chopping takes 10-15, the actual cooking less than 10. How Real is the 30-Minute Meal? Reader Discussion Flag this comment	3/19/13 3:44 PM

This is too funny, because the has been my main concern for the past few days! My boyfriend and I are cooking together to avoid the rip-off that is dining out on V-day, but I am a huge control freak when I cook. As a result, we took a few shortcuts that were against the heart of my cooking morals (buying store-made soup and desserts) and the two dishes we are making at home-- steak and mashed potatoes-- are as basic as you get! And I'm not allowed to get near the cooking space. This is the only way we will have harmony (and prosecco will totally be involved). Smitten Kitchen's Cherry Brown Butter Bars were more loved by my friends than any dessert I've ever made, but it's original version (from Bon Appetit) utilized raspberries instead of cherries. How about a hard valence, that comes out from the wall as much as the a/c units do? It's hard to tell just how far out that is, but that way the curtains would drape from the valence in one line (as long as the curtains were closed).
