I've ordered from Uncle Bob in the past and while I recommend his products, take heed that shipping is not at all fast.

Great job on the cabinet! I prefer to keep my DVDs and CDs in their cases as well. In my teen years, I kept my CDs in big binders as space was limited in my tiny bedroom. The result was that I either forgot what I had or it was too laborious to flip through the pages in my binders to find what I was looking for (many CDs not have their names and titles legibly printed on the discs).

The formal dinner party may have changed, but in my various circles of friends we regularly get together for potlucks and group meals, usually revolving around a general theme.

I do have to chime in with the erosion of proper manners though. I just hosted a potluck this past Saturday, and one of my usually tardy guests was unusually late. Dinner was delayed as most of my friends wanted to wait for his arrival, but after 2 hours of him not picking up the phone or answering texts, I insisted we start. 4 hours later, he calls and says he is on his way. I re-heat some food and wait. And wait. An hour later, he calls to apologize to say he's now too tired to come by.

Others simply don't respond to RSVPs and there will be no response from these types (no email, call or text) until the night before or day of the gathering. And there's no apology or a reason either-- 2 of them are self-employed and 1 barely works (trust funder). They post on Facebook and Twitter constantly, but cannot spare the 5 seconds to respond to an email reminder. I've noticed that these offenders also never host, so maybe that's why they have no idea the kind of planning that's involved.

Great job, transforming what looks like a generic loft building into a unique space. The black pieces and wall colors keep this cohesive and add a nice "New York" flavor, and keep the ethnic touches from becoming overly bohemian. Also love what you did in the kitchen. What could've been bland, contemporary black cabinets and appliances are given a new take by that wonderful distressed black sideboard/cabinet.

Just tried this and it was near impossible to shred by mandolin, even though I bought the largest sprouts I could find. None of my grippers work with the roly-poly brussel sprouts. I ended up cutting them by hand. Would love it if anyone tried this and can share tips!

I would not recommend OxyClean on a light carpet or rug. I spilled candle wax on light beige berber carpet and my sister suggested I used OxyClean. Big mistake--I should've checked their warning first. The stuff ended up leaving a bright yellow-orange stain in the carpet instead, making the problem even worse.

Very inspiring, I think you guys did an amazing job with such a tiny space. I love that the kitchen is minimalistic without being plain...great choice, considering the rest of the living area. Love, love, LOVE the backlit backsplash!

Thanks for the comments and suggestions, guys. I did the burn test and there was a tiny hard grain left (smaller than a grain of quinoa) so I guess it's not 100% wool after all. I was bilked! I didn't pay much for the rug, so hopefully I'm going to see if I can "condition" it and/or just trim off the stiff bits on top.

I've long perused SkinnyLaminx's etsy shop, how lovely to see her even more wonderful home! I must know where that bed is from. It reminds me of an Ikea model a few years back, but it only came in a twin size and didn't look half as sturdy.

Love the look, but I'd rather have a new retro-look stove (could you guys do a post on sources?) than an actual vintage one. I've run into enough headaches with old rental stoves, I'd ideally like one that just works 100% fantastic.

I love it, the space is great and what you've done with it is beautiful. However, it's a bit "distressed" for my taste, I just want to go in and give everything a really good scrub down. I do really admire it.
