I would not recommend OxyClean on a light carpet or rug. I spilled candle wax on light beige berber carpet and my sister suggested I used OxyClean. Big mistake--I should've checked their warning first. The stuff ended up leaving a bright yellow-orange stain in the carpet instead, making the problem even worse.

Is that a still from Barry Lyndon? Talk about lighting...that movie was incredibly beautiful.

Very inspiring, I think you guys did an amazing job with such a tiny space. I love that the kitchen is minimalistic without being plain...great choice, considering the rest of the living area. Love, love, LOVE the backlit backsplash!

Thanks for the comments and suggestions, guys. I did the burn test and there was a tiny hard grain left (smaller than a grain of quinoa) so I guess it's not 100% wool after all. I was bilked! I didn't pay much for the rug, so hopefully I'm going to see if I can "condition" it and/or just trim off the stiff bits on top.

I've long perused SkinnyLaminx's etsy shop, how lovely to see her even more wonderful home! I must know where that bed is from. It reminds me of an Ikea model a few years back, but it only came in a twin size and didn't look half as sturdy.

Love the look, but I'd rather have a new retro-look stove (could you guys do a post on sources?) than an actual vintage one. I've run into enough headaches with old rental stoves, I'd ideally like one that just works 100% fantastic.

I love it, the space is great and what you've done with it is beautiful. However, it's a bit "distressed" for my taste, I just want to go in and give everything a really good scrub down. I do really admire it.

I did away with bath mats four years ago and haven't regretted it since. I just use a nice fluffy hand towel (I have a bunch on hand) that I lay down and use after a shower. No fuss and takes up less space.

One of those "so crazy it just might work" ideas. Awesome! Love the house, but personally I'd get startled every time I enter the room with that mirrored base. For me it would be more distracting than anything.

I quite like the yellow walls, actually. They go with the lino floor and wood cabinets. If you paint, the yellow countertops will stick out more. I'd suggest you leave it but take out the top cabinet doors for open shelving (assuming you can't paint the cabinets).

But I digress. I think you should go for a Nelson bubble lamp like this one:

Or something similar. Retro shape, but modern lines. And I also agree with the other posters who suggested under-the-cabinet lighting for your countertops as well. Ikea has some cheap, easy options.
