I was really thinking about a hammock, but I got discouraged because there were in fact some recent recalls of certain models, they seemed to have too much cushioning that could move and cause suffication. The recalls mostly seem to apply to ones hanging form a single point ones, like in picture 3 and 5 seem to be fine.
Also they seems to be against US guidlines about SIDs, because they aren't a hard surface, but I think the might be a misinterpetation meaning you should use too soft a mattress.
But clearly many are safe and have been used forever, I would really like more into and resources form anyone about chosing a safe model, or features that make it a safe model.

I would seriously look into have a professional do the cabinets. You can do them yourselves, and if you think you are go to do a serious remodel in the next 3-5 years that would work out well. But the durability of a commercially sprayed white paint or laquer is going to be superior.
Paint the crown molding the same color as the ceiling for sure.
One small thing is that the trim pieces around the counter also look dated. When you paint I would consider replacing if possible with a tile edge or if not with another style of trim.
Finally I really like the idea of opening up the area above the stove somehow, if you can live with the loss of cabinet space.

I have never seen a spruce or a pine with " soft" needles. one year we picked up a blue spruce and despite gloves our hands were as scratched up after decorating. it was a beautiful tree though.

As a lover of blue, also think you can keep the space blue and it would look great with... a natural wood door, the move of the expedite, or the painting of the expedite into a warm color... orange red expedite maybe? also perhaps paint a warm neutral in the dining/front room to warm it up a bit. All been said before I know.. but just want to reiterate the good ideas.
Another more thing in the natural woodwork dept. If you could replace your whit mantle piece with a natural wood piece (keeping the white fireplace) I think that would really
warm up that room.
Finally.. it is a bit hard to tell in these pictures, but one of things that might be causing this blue to come cold is the sheen, a flatter sheen will stop light from reflecting of of it in a cold way, although of course completley flat is hard to clean. But if you are considering repainting ( which again, I don't think you really need to), especially in another shade of blue, don't forget to think about the sheen.

I love carpet squares, but they are rarely more economical that laminate.
The truth is carpet will be by far you most economical option. If you are comfortable with the look and don't have sever indoor allergies, it is probably the way to go. If you are a comfortable DIYer you can but carpet remnants and bind the edges yourself for easily for a fraction of the price.

As far as laminate scratching, it is important to note that there is a huge variety in the quality of laminate, how easily they will scratch, you may decide you don't want it for other reason like softness, or the more durable varieties may be out of you price range, but I wouldn't dismiss the whole category as tending toward getting scratched up.

I am so glad you kept the floor, and found a way to use it in your desired design scheme. It would have been such a waste environmentally and design wise to loose it. Good work.

I gotta second Dania for affordable MCM furniture. I know they aren't a full national brand so maybe that's why they are overlooked on this site, but their styles and price are pretty stellar, also they have a lot of made in america furniture.

I really want to second home body's comment. It seems a very good best of both world's idea.
Prepping a home for painting is time consuming, as well a a skill that should not be undervalued, especially if you have plaster instead of drywall (not sure in your case), and ceiling's are also a fair bit of effort and easy to chose the color for. A good prep job, especially if you are doing any wood work, really makes a difference in the quality of the job. You could then decide whether to paint yourself or hire our the walls when the time comes.
I also want to second the no/low VOC paint. I have painted a lot in low VOC paint, and then painted a room recently with regular paint ( i just forgot to oder the no VOC) the off gasing from the regular paint was noticible for several weeks, vs. a day or two for low VOC.

Your Furniture is Beautiful, including the green settee, it looks wonderful with that rug. Are you really changing to match your new apartment, or because you are looking for a change? I would not try to lighten up too much to fit the space. If think if you get some bold covers for the window seat pillows, some rich window treatments that compliment the pillows, and maybe one more piece of art for the left side of the settee to fill more neautral space (though I'm not even sure that last one is neccessary), you will be set and be able to maintain the wonderful arts and craft look you have going on.

How To Update Upholstery for New Room? Good Questions

I know that critters are a serious business, especially with such major outbreaks of beg bugs in the last few years. But it seems to me that choosing to live in fear of them, promotes a buy new all the time consumer mentality. It means also may mean a big trade of in quality. You may only be able to afford the least expensive and poorly made new furniture instead of a sturdier or more original used piece.
Maybe I am being over cavalier given the current critter climate, but personally every piece of soft furniture I have or have had in my last three apartments, except my mattress has been from craigslist, and I have have been very happy. It has also allowed me to buy and sell furniture between moves to find pieces that better fit each space.

Gosh.. If you really don't have any knickknacks to put there count yourself lucky. Stuff always seems to have a way of accumulating in life, so I personally would never go out any buy anything if its main purpose is to fill a space... if it gives you the excuse to get something you always wanted but didn't have space for that is another matter. Maybe you can just shop my house to see what might work well. If you are trying to keep it kitchen dining related, which you didn't mention, then items you use, but not often, as was suggested before is a great choice. Maybe things dining related that don't need to be accessed in the main kitchen that often such as silverware in a mason jars or other nice jar, napkins, trivets, etc would would well. Also board games, but you know, the pretty ones.

I am sorry, but this post is nothing like the vibrant bedspread post. Not only is it unhelpful at finding attractive quilts, it is poorly researched and downright deceiving. For example #7 was an anthropologie quilt that has been discontinued for 3 or 4 years, and several others are just recycled from previous posts without regard to price and availability.
