Not a fan of the puppies or Disney characters. The idea is cool, but I wonder how bright the light is. I've got two girls who share a room. One of them must have it totally dark while the other wants a night light. We struggle to find the perfect balance of light and dark. A High-Tech Kids Headboard |

This is the first year that I've even considered suggesting New Year's resolutions with my kids. They're 5 and 7 and seemed to get the idea. My 7 year old resolved to play games all year - not a great resolution in my mind, but it's what she wants... I'll still keep the constraints on how long and often she gets to play. My 5 year old resolved to stop sucking her thumb. Best resolution EVER! So far, so good! Do Your Kids Write New Year's Resolutions? |

My 5 year old is a thumb-sucker, and I was a thumb-sucker. My feeling is that it has to be something the child determines they want on their own. I know it seems impossible, but it is not. My 7 year old, who was a finger-sucker until she was 4, got violently ill once and we explained to her that when she touches something dirty and then puts her fingers in her mouth, it makes her sick. She decided right then and there that she didn't want to suck her fingers anymore and never did it again. My 5 year old loves to have her nails done. She realized after getting her nails painted with fancy stickers adorning them, that the paint and stickers would come off if she sucked her thumb. She made a New Year's Resolution (just this year) to stop sucking her thumb. It's been 5 days and so far, so good! You will never be able to talk your child into stopping without some motivating factor. I hope you find one that works for you! Good luck! Breaking the Thumb Sucking Habit Good Questions |

Is he vocalizing while at home that he needs to go potty, or are you just putting him on the potty routinely? My answer would depend on your answer to that question. If he's able to vocalize his need to go potty, you should be fine going out in public without diapers. In my opinion, putting a diaper on a potty-trained child is sending mixed messages. You're basically telling him it's ok to pee in diapers in public or in bed. To get him past wetting the bed, I suggest limiting his fluid intake an hour before bed, putting him on the potty right before getting into bed and then waking him up at about 11, or just before you go to sleep, to get up and pee one more time. He might have an accident or two, but that's part of the process in toilet training and his overall learning process. It's no fun to be soaked in your own urine and he will soon catch on. I have potty trained literally dozens of kids, being a childcare provider. Good luck! When (and How) To Totally Stop Using Diapers Good Questions |

I run a daycare in my home for kids up to 4 years old. I've potty trained literally dozens of kids. I think in some ways this is a brilliant idea. But, I'm not sure I want newly potty trained kiddos trekking off to the bathroom to take care of business alone. I kinda like the fact that they have to yell, "LIZ! Can you turn the light on?!" It clues me in to the fact that a two year old needs to go potty and I can monitor the progress. I have a step stool in the bathroom for washing hands. They learn how to use the faucet - which way is hot, warm and cold. Once they hit 3 or 4, they're on their own and doing great anyway, so for a year's time, it seems a bit extravagant. You can buy a light switch extender for little ones for $10 and take it off when you don't need it anymore. I'm just of a mindset that we shouldn't make life so convenient for our little ones all the time. A $700 Bathroom Makeover Made For Kids HGTV |
