I agree with PZZLDMOM pretty much. I'll answer the phone at my parents' house if I see it's family on the caller ID, otherwise I let the machine get it. I don't see the problem of asking the person if they'd like you to get the phone, but I probably wouldn't do it unless asked in case they're trying to avoid someone. My friends and I usually answer each others' phones if the owner is driving, and they know who it is before answering since everyone has caller ID these days. I get the privacy thing, but wow, a lot of commenters are very opinionated about this! What's everyone hiding? LOL.

Ugh, these sound horrible! My sympathies to those of you that have/had to deal with these particular creepy crawlies. I can empathize with runswithscissors, I left an apartment after a few months for a similar roach issue. The landlords refused to spray the building, but would set off foggers in each unit. The roaches just moved each time one unit was fogged, into the next one. Shudder. I've also battled fleas, which are about as bad as bedbugs - one has to vacuum, launder, etc. constantly for over a month to get rid of them completely. Still, give me fleas over roaches any day. Ick.

"Vase of flowers" LOL. This IS a bachelor pad style, after all! I think it looks great, my boyfriend would love it! Wouldn't work in my apartment, but it's nice and sleek and modern looking. To the poster wondering about the remote controls, glass doors can work, too, that's what my parents have and the remote control signal goes right through with no problems.

I second the "urban oasis" comment. One of my favorite things about Los Angeles is all of the mountain ranges practically in the middle of the city. It's easy to escape to the wilderness for an afternoon, and the views in the evening are breathtaking.

Imagine a use-by date for pillows! Mattresses should come with those.

Pillow protectors are a great idea, they will extend the life of your pillows.

I've heard that you should dry your pillows with some (clean) tennis balls to keep them fluffy. Never tried that, but I always make sure to wash/dry them in pairs. They seem to balance better in the washer that way, and the filling keeps its shape.
