I still think of the studio apartment I missed out on getting (over a holiday weekend) from my junior year in college. Within a few minutes I had already imagined how I'd have the XL space set up. Despite the very old and dingy kitchen (which probably met critters) I wanted to be there so badly. Oh well; I own a house now. Falling in Love with a Home |

@tinyhands, Alex aligned just enough pieces to make sure the whole wall looks balanced but carefree. If everything aligns as you've described, it would be awkward and forced. Just chiming in as another gallery shop professional, who hangs art this way in her store constantly. Art Tip: Hang a Gallery Art Wall on The Floor First |

I DIY'ed these planters with several plastic hollow dinos and other critters this summer as part of my wedding decor. Very effective for the big day, but the plants didn't last much longer...husband suspects that the plastics leach toxins into the soil... Shelterblack: Planters & Garden Goods Store Profile |

Jayme's place is amazing! He's a wonderfully skilled craftsman and artisan, and I've hired him several times to build custom furniture; always worth it. All three of Jayme's houses are spectacularly renovated, with a unique perspective on preservation and innovation. Go team Philly!! Jayme's Row House RehabHouse Call |

These are great chairs, but the college where I work has about seven thousand of them, and that many of even a good thing gets tiring to look at, and sit in. Modern Classics: The Series 7 Chair |

Plasti-dip is on almost all tools you buy that have a non-slip grip on them. Needle-nose pliers are a great example. You can slice it down with an exacto knife and peel off to remove. This gal has a good idea, it's a highly functional product for labeling tools and for creating a better grip on slippery things. You won't really be able to remove it very well from a porous surface, like non-coated wood, but anything resistant to water absorbion it will dry on as a 'sleeve.' - from a former sculpture student... We have a bird fly into our store (all windows, open doors often) at least once a year. The hardest part is finding where the bird happened to poop while in the shop. (not to mention having bird poop on artwork makes it hard to sell...) How To Get a Bird Out of the House |

I also suggest getting to an Art Supply store nearby (not craft store). Utrecht, Dick Blick, Pearl, Artist & Craftsman should all have lines of fancy spraypaint in wonderful colors. Their paints are more expensive per can, but well worth it in vibrancy and range. Good luck! How To Do Primary-Color Scheme without Looking Childish? Good Questions |

When I was just five years old my family moved (back) across the country from Fresno, Ca to rural Maryland. Since I was a child I don't know the route, but I will always know that driving cross country is always better when it involved a vintage school bus and an awesome dog. @canadianmango in the context of your project (sounds like you were trying to sell a home or condo), i'm sure there's no harm in doing the DIY fine art route. In your own home,; you'd be missing out deciding to live with 'fake' art. Also, printmaking is a really (REALLY) affordable way to collect artwork on a budget, and they'll still last a lifetime, unlike something printed from the computer or drawn on non-archival surfaces. I hope you take the time to invest in some artwork made by artists someday! Artwork for the World's Ugliest Condo |

oh my gosh. as an artist who does work on paper, handmade or not, this is kind of horrifying. Works on paper should NOT TOUCH THE GLASS. Moisture travels across the glass and will ruin the artwork. Take this to an independent framer, not Michaels' or AC Moore. You need archival framing. But yes, the recommendation for a white background is good, but not copy paper. There's acid in that paper and it will turn your delicate drawing yellow, like a crusty old paperback. Acid-Free Matboardl please. What's Wrong with This Picture? (The Frame!) Good Questions |

Grey is a good choice, and looking for a silver grey is smart, as others have noted. I also am painting now, and went with a "seashell grey" from behr for my living room and dining room (it's a rowhouse, they flow into each other). The kitchen is a mexican brick red with mahogany cabinets, and whenever I see the colors from both rooms together, I feel so good! It's amazing what the right grey can do! Everyone's studio gets this way after a while, but it's so important to tidy up for a clean sweep when starting a new series/project/piece. And flat files really are an excellent way to get organized! My shop has 4 sets of flat files; if you're lucky, you can find them on craigslist for about $250 a set, instead of $1200....
