I don't know, feels a bit icky after that news story about the baby that was killed by a fox... Or am I being oversensitive?

white for the trim/shutters
stain the porch
then forget about it and concentrate your efforts on the pot plants you've already started as you can take with when you move. You will get more personal satisfaction out of them and will home-ify the house when you come to sell.

I would have gone for black. Still you can always repaint if you fancy a change.

DEFINITELY change the nightstand! I'd personally stain it a mid-tone beech that tones in with the lamp base and the blind. But a glossy laquer in a deep but muted colour would look good too. A bit of subtle shine will sit nicely against the powdery wall.

I'm not hugely against having different coloured woods in a room but in this case the light pine against the dark end tables isn't working for me. So either stain it dark (liked the photoshopped pic, its a bit solid, it will look even nicer in real life) OR keep it light, paint the end tables a creamy white and do something interesting with colour on the wall.

Either way, get an oversized quilt that drapes over the sides of the bed and covers the divan and it will look gorgeous.

No point in using a lighter paint to make this room look airier or bigger. Might as well just go with your favourite colour. For me that would be a lush French marigold.

I second the Alice in Wonderland theme but in a very understated, not too literal way. Maybe use oversized teacups as holders for hair accessories, some heart-shaped cupboard handles, the blue of Alice's dress for the walls... look at some Tim Walker/shona Heath photos for inspiration.

Forget-me-not blue in a super-matt finish so it looks really powdery for the walls.
white (not too super-bright) for the wainscotting and other wood trim.
