I went to an outdoor concert/picnic last year and brought citronella tea candles which I set in small mason jars and the effect was surprisingly beautiful. Especially if you get the jars that already have the faceted glass pattern. Best part, they're, what like a dollar a piece or less.

I make buffalo chicken rolls all the time and they're a huge hit. It's just shredded chicken mixed with buffalo sauce, add a little blue cheese and something crunchy like shredded carrot or broccoli slaw. Yum!

One of the best gifts I've ever gotten was when on Christmas my aunt typed up all of my grandmother's recipes (which included a lot of other family recipes). Not only do I refer to it all the time, but at family gatherings when I ask for a recipe for a dish someone brought it's very common to hear someone say "it's in grandma's cookbook so you already have the recipe" which is awesome.

This works like magic: Cook chicken breast and put it whole into the mixer bowl, mix it for a few seconds and it'll come out all perfectly shredded. It's so speedy it made me literally laugh out loud the first time I tried it.

For all of you mentioning vanilla beans I just got these in the mail the other week and I'm using it to make homemade vanilla extract. I got like 80 beans in a vacuum sealed bag. They seem MORE than adequate for any project I would use them for and it was like $18 (plus free 2 day shipping if you Amazon Prime). Just throwing that out there. I've got about 24 jars of homemade extract in the works right now ha ha

I scored 29, but you know what, you can't miss what you don't even see. When I looked at the spectrum after organizing it, they all looked smooth and transitional to me. I guess if someone next to me had better discrimination and was looking at it with you.

I find I have more success cooking me meat under the broiler in the oven using a broiler plan. The fat still drips off into the pan below and the high one-sided heat of the broiler positioned an inch or so above the steak is the closest I've found to mimicking grilling.

At age 28, I've started to ask myself, how old is too old to travel everywhere with a hiking backpack? It's so convenient, and can really expand and contract in size, but I do always look like a German hostel-goer wherever I go.

@jenniferbnyc Remember, that outdated information is only worthless to people looking for current info. Historians would LOVE that old set. Or people interested in studying culture, society... etc. Those encyclopedias are a time capsule. They tell you not how the world is now, but how the world was when they were published, and more than just the facts (USSR versus Russia), the society in which it was born (look at the prejudices that are surely present when talking about indigenous peoples, African-Americans, communists, etc.) In fact the more I talk about it the more I'd love them! But please don't just toss them!

This weekend I've started off by trying to make individual portions of lasagna to freeze for some quick meals over these next few busy weeks. Of course, for me, an "individual portion" is usually pretty hardy. What I learned is, if you watch what you put in it (and maybe omit meat) lasagna isn't as unhealthy as I once believed. Victory!

I've been making a lot of brussel sprouts lately. I've baked in foil, I've sauteed and then broiled to finish, but honestly, just cooking them on the stove-top while I boil water for pasta seems to work the best. I do have to say, there is probably a difference in cooking them if you half them or cook them whole. At least in my experience.
