This soup is easy and absolutely delicious! It has the added benefit of including many ingredients said to fight the flu and colds.

It was our first week of CSA deliveries for the season, and I am so happy! Strawberry rhubarb pie, arugula and baby turnip salad, braised bok choi, and probably some green smoothies with the huge bunch of kale I got. I love spring!

I made these today, and I too found the recipe for the dough to be too dry and crumbly to work with at all- I couldn't even get it to form a ball. I just added some milk until it came together and I was able to roll it out. They are still pretty fussy, but amazingly delicious.

Thank you! I am planning on making Emma's cookies, and the bag of peppermint pillows she recommended is about $15 (inc. shipping) on amazon - I ordered it thinking I would get at least a few batches of cookies from the bag, but it is only as big as my fist. That is very expensive peppermint candy. I have a Rite Aid a block from my house, and I'm going tomorrow to see if they have these.

I found this to be very very salty, and I did add a little sugar to balance it out.

I love Christmas cookies! We always had Russian tea cakes but everything else varied year to year.

My grandmother used to make these horrible creme de menthe balls - nobody liked them, but she would make them year after year, insisting that we always loved them, and the was surprised when they were the only cookies left by New Years. All of her other cookies were great. She stopped baking a few years ago, but we always still have a lot of cookies around the holidays.

I like to make a bunch of different types of cookies and give them as gifts. For the past few years I've been building a mix of my own, adding one or two new varieties each year, and keeping the winners. Some favorites are 5-Spice Gingersnaps, Grapefruit sandwich cookies, Cherry and honey-almond shortbread, benne wafers, and chocolate peppermint bark cookies.

I had no idea "foodie" was considered a pretentious term. I thought it just meant someone who was interested in food - eating, cooking, and talking about it. I have described myself this way many times, but I probably won't anymore. Culinarian and gourmand sound much snobbier to me.

Sorry to be a downer, but we got one in my office and everyone who sat on it for more than a few minutes ended up with terrible back pain.

I use a vertical peeler like the one in the photo, and do it in one or two long spirals. It takes about 10-15 seconds. The method described above seems much more complicated and time consuming. I cut it after it is peeled.

They are great in guacamole. Just mince them and add to your regular guacamole recipe- they add a nice extra bite.

While this looks like a fun meal, I would definitely do it on a day that is not Thanksgiving.

I prefer something a little closer to traditional, although I do like to do it slightly different each year. This year we are doing a mexican flavored meal - chipotle rub on the turkey, chorizo and cornbread stuffing, poblano and sweet potato gratin, cranberry jalapeno relish... I would call it spicy traditional.

Look! A Diner-Style Thanksgiving

In my family we have Thanksgiving dinner at a slightly early dinner-time - so 5:30 or 6 p.m. rather than 7 or 8 p.m. when we would eat a normal dinner. Everyone comes over in the afternoon and watch football, we all help cook and set up, and just hang out. There are light snacks to graze on all day so nobody is starving and rushing through the meal. We linger over the meal for a while, play a board game usually, and have dessert later in the evening.

I had no idea that people hated Adam Gopnik. He is one of my favorite writers of all time.

Farro with roasted vegetables (eggplant, zucchini, bell peppers, onion) and marinara sauce, a little parm cheese on top, a peach, and an oatmeal raisin cookie. Very satisfying.

I had a sandwich with similar components the other day, but healthier and really delicious. Hearty whole wheat bread, a thin layer of cream cheese, smoked turkey, a thinly sliced granny smith apple, spinach, and dijon mustard. I think it would have been great with goat cheese instead of cream cheese too.

I do have to admit when I was a teenager, my sister and I loved bologna, doritos and mustard sandwiches on white bread. Chips on sandwiches are really good.
