My grandmother would be over 100 years old if she were still living. She used to make a dessert using cool whip mixed with vanilla pudding (it makes it lighter/fluffy), and nilla wafers, she would use crushed pineapple (drained), fresh strawberries, and sliced bananas for each layer. It was topped with coolwhip and small pieces of chopped pecans (we are from the south, and love our pecans) and would sometimes make a pattern with chocolate syrup on top. Sliced almonds would also be good. She used to make hers in a baking pan. When I make it I use a pretty glass bowl so you can see the layers. Everyone loves it. I believe the nilla wafers are somewhat more dense, although soft, would have a better consistency/texture. Just saying... I do not have the recipe written down, but I would use 2 boxes of nilla waffers, 2 large packages of vanilla pudding mixed with 1 tub of cool whip, 1 more tub of cool whip for the top layer, pecans and chocolate syrup, 1 can of pineapple, 1 large bunch of bananas, and 3-4 pints of fresh strawberries. You may have some extras left over depending on the size of your dessert bowl, but I'm sure it won't go to waste...YUM

You can bring whole wheat pita bread (it can't get smashed) with canned tuna or peanut butter or whole wheat tortilla/wrap and use laughing cow cheese and add a small jar of roasted bell peppers--the cheese doesn't need to be refridgerated. You will need some kind of a knife to slice the cheese, perhaps a sturdy plastic one since the cheese is relatively soft. Del monte has cups of fruit with no sugar added. Good luck.

Seeing your pillows gave me an idea. My mother is 71 and she just received quilt patches (squares) that her mother made years before she died. My mother was only 9 at the time of her death. My mother was trying to think of what she should do with the patches. There is not enough of them to make a quilt. I just emailed her and asked her if she wanted to make pillows from the squares for her kids and grandkids. And one for herself of course. I have also seen where squares can be quilted and framed which is another idea.

To guess you can say that I use the verticle space in my kitchen--I have (2) 3-tierd plate stands for my kitchen (1) for fresh fruits and vegies and (1) for paper plates, paper bowls and napkins. I have one to the left of my sink and one to the right of my sink. One is on display and ready to eat once washed. And the other is handy for my kids to reach for their paper products.

How to Store Food in a Small Kitchen

Just a tip for left over food. I came up with this idea...I use a small office label perhaps smaller than a stamp, sold at Office Depot, Walmart, etc. (you can also use a post it note) my left overs are in plastic containers so I put the label on top of the lid with the date (i.e. 8/25, Thur.) I clean out my fridge twice a week when the garbage man comes. I have 3 kids with sports and activities so I'm busy, it is one less thing I have to think about. And this way I know how long it is in the fridge. It works great!

This also reminds me of something a friend made for me years ago--I still have it. It was a glass Christmas ornament (clear) she poured gold paint into it, some of the clear glass remained with some areas having more gold paint than others. She used craft paint and squirted it into the ornament. It created kind of a marbled effect. I believe she would have turned the ornament in her hand to move the paint around. I would imagine she would pour out any excess paint so it can dry. Then she put back the top of the ornament where to hook goes. She tied a gold fabric ribbon on the top. And presented it to me in a pretty box cushioned in tissue paper. She always created homemade gifts.

I wonder if you could use a ceramic or glass paint to create color or multi-color vases to coordinate with your room ?

I did see on the Nate Burkas show on 8-4-11 where he and a decorator used a spray can to create "mercury glass" (the real kind is very expensive they said). The actual color is silver-gray and it is reflective. It can be sprayed on a glass and framed (like a picture frame of any size--you just need the frame and the glass) to make what looks like a reflective mirror. Or get a piece of glass to fit a frame you already have or buy at a new picture frame at a frame shop. They said any hardware store will have it. It is sometimes referred to as "looking glass spray" or "mercury glass." They said a can costs around $10.00. It can be used for vases they demonstrated this (with a wider lip to spray into). They also used other glass objects like a glass bowl, etc. Anything glass... The decorator's name was Erica domesec (I didn't see the spelling, sorry), but she did write a book called, "P. S. I made this."
And yes she did say that you can use real flowers with water in the vases.

In my upstairs linen & toiletrie closet I use a shoe organizer on the inside of the door for small items like shoe laces, shoe polish, small shampos from the hotels, powders, lotions, etc. I have baskets on the shelves for larger things. In my children's bathroom closet I have another shoe organizer with household cleaners--cleanser, window cleaner, furnature polish, scrub brushes (once they are clean & dry), etc. A friend of mine put two shoe organizers on her daughters closet doors (inside) to display her small beanie (animal) collection.

I have used the shoe organizer to put craft supplies in it for my kids. I placed it on the front and back or the door in a craft area. It is easy to see and they can put things back in their place. Some craft supplies are glue/glue sticks, scissors, paints, yarn, popcycle sticks, stickers, buttons, rope, beads, markers, colored pencils, pencils, pens, tape, stapler, rulers, etc.

I keep baby wipes in: (1) the kitchen to clean up messes, to wipe counters/stove/sink , (2) my bathrooms (in the cabinet) for a quick cleaning, and (3) my car for sticky fingers and messes. It saves time having them in convient places ready to use. I feel I am not spreading germs with a new wipe used each time verses a dish towel or sponge. Other cleaning solutions can be used along with the wipe on the surfaces, if desired. If I am drawing a bath for my young son I can easily wipe down the surfaces in the bathroom in just minutes. It is right where I need it, there is no need to look for cleaning products in another area. This saves time and energy.
