Thanks to all for the kind words and the votes. This contest has been fun and interesting.

Some people commented on the size of the room and seemed very critical of the fact that I called it luxurious. I can truly say that my room is indeed a retreat for me and utterly luxurious- which has nothing to do with its size. I absolutely love what I've been able to create in such a small space and am happy that I was able to share it w/the AT community:)

p.s. my bed frame is on casters, so I just move it away from the wall in order to make the bed;)

Thanks Megan!! The bedding is a basic cotton set from overstock.com. I purchased a nice quality ribbon from a local store and had my dry cleaner sew it on. It's a super cost effective way to get a designer look:)

Thank you. The sconces are House of Troy, which I found on eBay for a fraction of the retail price.

Thanks LollyPup. The stencil was quite the undertaking…one I won’t soon be repeating.

The base color is Behr Creek Bend which I mixed with an ivory whose name I don’t remember. The stencil color is a mix of several latex craft paints-gold being the dominant color. After the stencil was completed, I then went back and traced over it w/a silver paint pen to better define the edges.

This was my 1st and most likely last attempt at stenciling. I love it, but absolutely underestimated the effort and overestimated my patience;)

Beautiful transformation!
I love it when someone(designer or not) takes the time to make a rental their own.

Brittany the quilt is from eBay. It's a kantha quilt made from old saris pieced together. It actually has about 6 different patterns on both sides. I've fallen in love w/them. You can usually find them on Etsy as well.

Thanks Maria! The ikat fabric is from eBay. I had my dry cleaner make it into a pillow.
the kantha throw is also from eBay...they're a bit of a new obsession for me.

p.s. I love your room as well. The drapery fabric is beautiful.

@abala the pattern on the wall is actually a stencil. It was a 2-step process and almost the death of me to apply ;)

Wow, what a surprise! I was just taking a break from work and scanning AT when I saw my that my room had been selected...very happy. Thank you all for the positive comments.

@mardete sadly there is no one jumping over me to get to the other side of the bed;)
@Hello Kitty I did the painting myself.
@caro5703 The table is Global Views gifted from a friend. I believe they still have similar tables.

I think some of our international brethren are missing the point here (Yes Canada included. Last I checked it is actually another country). I’m sure AT is not purposely trying to make you feel less than worthy. As someone who has entered many contests/sweepstakes here in the US, I know that the laws are very strict-even between different states. Please keep in mind that when you win most prizes there are also tax issues that you must deal with.

I read several blogs/magazines from international locations and trust me the contests and giveaways always exclude international participants. I also think there is nothing wrong with catering to readers in your home country and many blogs do. This issue seems somewhat silly. I think it’s great that readers get an opportunity to showcase their homes in so many ways on AT, and many people are really just raining on the parade here. IMHO

What a beautiful home, Job well done, Leah!! This is one of my fave tours ever. I love the choices that were made using bold color & pattern, and varying décor styles. In lesser hands such a mix could go terribly awry. Also, kudos on the shower curtain…I wouldn’t have the patience.

I think what’s sad is that rude, nasty, snarky and completely irrelevant comments seems much more prevalent as the square footage of a home increases or the appearance that the homeowner has a bit more discretionary funds than the average AT reader to decorate their space. Jealously and envy are not pretty even if they are trying to disguise themselves as not-so constructive criticism. If your comments/criticisms are not design related, you may want to consider keeping them to yourself.

@lisa_stockholm calling someone's home "soul-less" is a bit harsh don't you think? Especially when they have chosen to share their personl space in an open forum such as this. A simple "not my taste" would suffice.

While this is not what I would do for my own home, I think it's a beautiful and expertly executed space! And since Carrie mentions several meaningful pieces that were gifts, DIY and purchased on her travels, I would say that's a lot of soul!

Contact paper is much less expensive than removable wallpaper and comes in a variety of solid colors which might be more appropriate for a door. Window film is definitely a great option for the panels.

While I know I shouldn't contribute to the total carnage of this car wreck, being the opinionated person that I am (and lest we forget design enthusiast) I just can't seem to stop myself from joining in. I originally saw this house tour and thought “not really my cup of tea, but to each his own.” I also thought the “rape shack” comment was in bad taste, but again c’est la vie…” The complete insanity that has ensued has been to say the least a bit sad. Everyone has their opinions and wants them to be heard, but sometimes silence is golden.

"A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.”
“There is one way for a fool to appear wise, that is, to be silent.

I’m sure I’ve just opend myself up to some name calling, but oh well.
p.s. @uphereintheclouds your analogy had me literally laughing out loud:)

I painted all the walls(in a fairly small kitchen) in black chalkboard paint. Against white cabinets, grey granite countertops, wood floors and stainless steel accents it looks amazing!! Now friends and family can leave a quick note or drawing every time they visit. I always have something new, interesting and fun to look at. And as far as clean up goes, I can simply wipe down with a wet cloth.
