I store my duvet (quilt) cover sets inside one of the pillow cases - spare pillowcases, cover, and a fitted sheet all go inside after folding. It means I'm grabbing a 'kit' to change the sheets, and everything matches.

My biggest issue - hmmmm.....a lack of storage, a very small room, lots of windows (letting in heat in summer, or cold in winter), and yet the thing that peeves me most is opening the window as the fly screen needs opening inwards to open the glass window outwards. Having no choice but to put my bed against at least one wall of windows renders them useless!

I agree that the sticks are odd - but then, in the same shot, so is the door knob screwed to the wall. If that was my workspace, that would annoy me so much - I'd fiddle and tweak and finally have to remove it. Not quirky, just odd.

Presumably, the top photo is a hotel room - doesn't look much like a spare room or a home office, and missed the advice on sizing down!

I find an untidy desk leads to me procrastinating. Everything has a place and everything within it's place means I can focus on the job at hand. When busy, my in/out trays get rather full and untidy, but it's manageable and I can still put my hands on anything I need without having to look.

Very pretty - love #'s 5 and 9 BUT I've sworn off round jars and am looking for square ones to try to use my limited kitchen space well. Any suggestions?

Doesn't do it for me either, the changes were there, but not really significant enough for a B&A.....I'm also not sure why leave those shelves on display (seriously, I would have either put another cabinet door over them, or at the least some cheerful cloth).

Love these (and yes, I'm Australian so am well familiar). But you've missed my favourite type - the balinese bamboo ones. It's not just Aussies that have addressed the need. I bought a beautiful set of 3 on ebay, with a 'plate' of woven bamboo, then a fold out net that comes over the top. They're stylish enough to leave on the counter, or to wow at a 'barbie' (as we call it).

These are similar:

I've fallen victim to the 'if you buy this <insert random item here> it will change your life". While I am learning not to fall for that and buy new things, what I struggle with now is the notion of throwing out something that isn't broken or damaged (most of these things can't even be given away).

Oh, and I think the comment about DVD's is also about right - also CD's. I've put most of my music on my Ipod, and stored the CD's (without the cases) to hide the clutter. I still need to work though my very old casettes - my plan is to pick out the favourite tunes on each tape and replace via itunes.

I enjoyed this very much. I'm someone who has always been a hoarder, misplacing sentimentality on inanimate objects, although recognising it isn't the same as dealing with it. I feel relief when something breaks and needs to be binned!

Our council does a cleanup of large items twice a year, although most items are taken before council gets there. I've put out bags of coathangers with this knowing that although council won't take them, someone else will.

I bought a kobo a couple of years ago and am slowly replacing the paper books with the ebooks. *I recognise that I love the words or the story*, and don't need the paper. I'm down from 3 full bookcases to 1, with about 400 ebooks. The only books I won't replace are ones where pictures matter - for me, they are cookbooks and crafts.

I use one of those flushable toilet wipes to do the toilet cistern and then seat. There may be better things for the environment, yes, but this is quick and I don't get left with an icky germy sponge in the bathroom (I'm aware I may be over reacting, but this works for me!). I do use a swiffer for the floor, but it has a cloth sponge that fits over the top which cleans better (the fabric has texture) and goes straight into the wash once used.

There are a few things that need doing that aren't listed though ... bathroom fans have filters that need cleaning periodically, windows need cleaning (inside and out), shower heads need descaling, shower curtains need washing, etc. The tips are a great start though.

I've been in your shoes, I've donated 2/3 of my books to charities and local libraries after getting a kobo. I managed to get a lot of the older loved books from project guttenberg (www.gutenberg.org). Others, I've put on a watch list on some of my favourite ebook sites, and I've managed to get a lot of them on sale. Yes, it's a pain to purchase the book twice, but in the end, I've decided it's worth it if I love them. Much less pain than trying to scan.

I've downloaded some books that have been scanned into pdf format (mostly legal <koff>). Reading them is a pain - the page size isn't quite right for the reader, you lose a lot of benefits of the e-reader too, eg you can't change font size. I've also downloaded some rather questionable books too, with interesting typos ('rn' becomes 'm' and vice versa). I'm now sticking to the legit sites only.

When travelling internationally, I carry a universal adaptor - by differing combinations of pins it can fit any powerpoint. There have been times where the hotel I've been staying in has attempted to help guests by changing their outlets, which makes things less predictable. I carry a double adaptor rather than a power strip, but same idea - if I'm charging things, I'd like to be able to do a couple of things at the same time.

I have a small makeup bag (handbag size) that is perfect for carrying camera and phone chargers. I have two cameras that I take - the bigger one that I prefer, but also a small one that fits in my handbag which is more sociable to take out to restaurants, etc. The smaller one is the size of a deck of cards, and is waterproof for beach shots too.

I do like the tip about the usb hubs and getting an adaptor for the wall outlet - hadn't thought of that, will try it next time as my smartphone, ipod and kobo would all use it. If only they had a universal cord for all devices, but alas, manufacturers like having unique aspects, and the connectors seem to have the most variation.

Best tip I ever got was to store duvet covers in their matching pillowcase (along with spare pillowcases for double/queen/king sizes). I also put a matching fitted sheet in - I have 3 in total - so that when I go to change the sheets I'm grabbing one thing and it's all matched up. It also looks really tidy wherever they're stored - mine are currently in a cabinet under my microwave, still looking for a better option in my tiny flat so this article was of interest.

What an unusual bathroom - the shower is in the den? I would have liked to have seen how the rest of the space works as I'm loving the great room and the garden!

Love it - I especially love the use of the cabinet (entertainment style) beside the bed to create a bedside table but also a boundary. So much stuff in there, but it still looks clean and neat.

On an international work trip some years ago, I fell into a pattern of waking for 8 hours, sleeping for 4 (I was not even away for one week, it wasn't worth adjusting my internal body clock). I have to say, it was the easiest pattern I've been in. If only work didn't get in the way nowadays!

I think a nice wallpaper would work - something bold, slightly retro (to match the wood of the credenza). Total feature wall.

This is my home town - I'd not realised there were such innovative architects here! Beautiful! I'm guessing that the council would not have permitted changes to the front of the house (some councils care, others don't). I too would have liked to see a floor plan included (always!), before and after pictures, and an idea of the cost of the renovations (just to help me to keep daydreaming!).

Loved reading this - comfort and nurturing abounds. You mentioned blankets - I love the fleece throws (ikea have a stack of them). They're warm, soft and best thing is that they can go in the washing machine and dryer. They're actually not too ugly either (I have two in cream and one in navy blue).

My electric blanket also brings me comfort - it has the choice of a 75 minute timer or a 12 hour timer. I often fall asleep with it on the shorter timer.
