Since you can't put anything in this space, it doesn't gain you anything except for making a space feel more visually open. A floating staircase has the same effect.

I live in Baltimore City, so I'll keep the light on all night. A bright street is a safer street in Bmore...

For this long post there wasn't one recommendation to use a CFL. This seems to be the most important thing to be "green".

Whatever you do, make sure to get a fan that is one sone or less. That is unless you want it to be loud.

Also, in the future I would get a fan separate from the light. I have a fan with integrated light, and it isn't great to look at. A double whammy of thinks NOT to do, is get a fan/light with a flourescent light in it. You can just get a regular fan/light combo and put a CFL in it. I have the fan/light with flourescent in it, and the room is dim for about 2-4 minutes as the bulb warms and puts out more light. Not cool in a bathroom where you want warm light, and want it immediately.

I used a pre-made niche inserts. This way there is no fancy framing, cement board, and other sealing. Scroll down a bit to see all their niches.

Loving it.

Look really cool. One question on the first one... How did they make it so the dirt and plants don't just wash through the open cinderblock passages? I assume there is a bottom added to each pot, and it would be great to see how they did this! Any ideas?

@cliokitty - If you just need to extend your electrical outlets out to the new tile level you can use extenders. And why do you need new drywall? Can you just tile over the old drywall? I did both these items for my backsplash and it worked fine.

I love my retractable leash. I keep the dog reined in while walking past people, but let it loose to let him run a bit. The problem isn't the leash, it is inconsiderate owners...

Definitely remember to ground the device. Your steps outlined above are unsafe, and against electrical codes.

I love it.

I got a Kindle DX as a X-mas present and returned it because I felt the B&W interface and single use of the device wasn't worth the price. Throw in the full web capability, a touchscreen, and color and I feel like this is a much better device for a similar price as the Kindle DX. It will be a great addition to the coffee table and will come along with me when I travel to watch movies, read a book and surf the web when away from home. And the 3g option is nice, but since I have an iphone already I would probably just get the wifi version.

Is this device for everybody? No. But it is a great in-between for those who found Kindle too limiting but a netbook too much.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Another way to do this is to just use piping pieces, which would hide the wire inside and potentially look a lot cleaner.

They look nice, but every solar powered landscape light I've come across is far from bright. Installing low voltage lighting is easy. Just plug in a $80 12v transformer into your closest outlet, and attach the lights.

I have hardwoods through my 1300 sq ft house, and use a electrolux ergorapido. It usually starts to die at the end, and I wouldn't use it if we had carpet, but it works just fine for our needs.
