What an adorable party! Perfect for a summer birthday. I will have to remember this idea next summer when my soon-to-be-born little girl will turn 1.

I pack lollipops (a very, very rare treat) in case I need to bring out the heavy bribery. I also buy water/juice once we get through security and bring an empty sippy cup to fill up so my son's got something to drink during take-off to relieve the pressure in his ears. My son loves apples, so I throw several in our bag and we can all munch on them as snacks. They travel well and don't smell or stain - same goes for pre-cut grapes, carrot sticks and cucumber slices. Leaving on a trip next Tuesday so this is a good reminder to start thinking about the snack bag!

Sewtrashy, totally agree. That is the main reason I hardly ever go to Trader Joe's. Whatever advantage they gain from their products/pricing is completely negated for me by the cramped aisles and pushy, TJ-crazed shoppers you have to endure.

I pick my son up from day care and we get home around 6pm, and as I'm making dinner I give him either part of his (usually vegetables, either raw or quickly prepared) or a piece of fruit while he waits, then we try to eat together once my husband gets home around 6:45. It only works now because our son goes to bed later, so we don't have to start the bedtime routine at 6:30 like we used to. When he was still a baby/young toddler, we too would feed the baby, put him to bed, then eat ourselves during the week. But, we would make eating breakfast and lunch all together on the weekends a priority, and often dinner as well. Eating around the table together is the point; it doesn't have to be dinner!

This is what we have: http://www.asfurniture.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10051&urlLangId=&parent_category_rn=&top_category=&errorViewName=ProductDisplayErrorView&categoryId=&langId=-1&productId=20711&storeId=10151 Looks like it is a little above your price range, but we love it. It opens in the middle, is covered in leather and we have never had an issue with our 3yo and his little fingers. It has tons and tons of storage space. Good luck!

My day care heats lunches every day for my son; I had no idea it was so rare. I have this Beaba set but find that it leaks some, so I have found other microwave safe containers, but sadly I can't find the ones we use online.
