I think you can work with it. The existing colors say 'Art Nouveau' to me -- specifically, Alphonse Mucha. Use these paintings as a starting point: identify the colors you can't change (tile, fixtures) and find a color that seems to work well with them for the walls.... I used this great tin panel supplier when I remodeled my kitchen. You can get real metal panels (not those cheap plastic ones you find at the hardware store) for about $9 for 4 square feet. Awesome!
