I have put a frame around my thermostat in a collage wall to help it blend in more and it worked very well. I think the stacked wood dresser is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen and the golden velcro chandelier is beautiful. If only I'd seen this a few years ago when my bookshelves were bereft of book-ends. Through diligent searching, I've found some affordable options for my shelves, but this would have been so much easier & more fun! Great post! Make Faux-Bronze Animal Bookends On The Cheap Mad In Crafts |

This may be a little kooky, but as far as mimic-ing the first one goes--I'm seeing two hula hoops (painted a solid color, or maybe not) one mounted to the wall, then normal bracketed shelves mounted over it, with the ends cut to fit inside the circles, then the other hula hoop mounted on the front. It wouldn't be as fabulous as the Anthropologie shelving, but it sure wouldn't be $1300 Unexpected Necessity: Circular Shelving |

I got one very similar to that that was on a telescoping metal rod that sticks in the corner from Aldi's of all places, when I was doing some grocery shopping. I used just a small bit of rubber drawer liner under the bottom of it, though, because it kept sliding out. Bed Bath & Beyond, Wal-Mart & Target would all have some options, however. Depending on what the new roomie does for a living (if she's in a design/creative career, it might be harder) Just say that you have a real passion for design and that you would love to help "modernize" or "rejuvenate" or "freshen up" the place. Let her know that if she wants to have some say, that it is possible, also be up front if you want her help to pay for any of the updates--because that makes it harder to convince someone of the need for change. Try and let her realize that it's not that what is there is "bad" (though it might be) but that you want to introduce more "you." If you plan on living there for a while--more than a few months--then definitely be as honest as you can. Maybe include something that you know that these are things she would probably have gotten to herself, if she weren't so busy, but you have the time and desire to get it done.
