I love the way these spaces look but I can't imagine leaving some of these things outside knowing they're going to be exposed to summer thunderstorms. Nice ideas if you live in a dry climate, though.

The house I'm renting had a vintage GE Frigidaire stove from the 1950's when I first moved in. It recently shorted out and is in need of a new part that will control the oven temperature. It's in very good condition and looked awesome in my kitchen. I was sad to see it go. My landlady is hanging on to it to see if she can sell it.

You have a really beautiful space here. I would suggest a warm color, maybe even a warm gray if you can find it, but consider the fact that your floors and cabinets are warmer and richer in color. A cool gray would stick out rather than compliment the overall color scheme. You have some rich reds in the living room. Have you thought about a yellow hue?

In Boston, there is most definitely a difference in price when comparing upper-level duplexes to lower-level duplexes. Upper-level duplexes (second and third floors) are priced higher, and these units are not considered comparable to lower-level units. My realtor made that very clear to me, as any credible agent should.

I live on the first floor. My upstairs neighbors stomp when they walk, and they have a huge bowling ball of a dog. They think it is my duty as a first-floor dweller to put up with any noise that comes from their unit. They don't think they have any reason to be courteous neighbors and tread lightly. The way they see it, it's my problem, not theirs. This is why I will never have neighbors living above me ever again.

Some agents work part-time, so it's good to find out exactly how part-time they are and what their availability will be.

Also, find an agent who is familiar with the area you plan to move to. Working with someone who knows your new town or neighborhood inside and out is priceless.
