Peameal is a particular type of bacon and I've never seen it outside the Toronto/GTA area. It's more like a ham and thicker cut than the back bacon shown in your photo. Sweet Breakfast Meat: Canadian BaconIngredient Spotlight |

It looks great, but I don't understand the "permit-free" pitch. Where I live, any structure using electricity has to be permitted (shed, garage, whatever). The example shown would also have to be permitted because of how close it is to the neighbor's fence. Rules vary, of course. Sett Studio by Mike Speciale Design Showcase 2011 |

Fiberglass warms up faster and stays warmer than metal tubs, in my experience. If you've got a really heavy cast-iron tub, it will hold heat well but the trick is getting it warmed up in the first place. Freestanding Tubs: Traditional vs. Modern |

Like the thinking behind this but it looks very awkward to use with lots of uncomfortable reaching and trying not to spill your coffee on the books. Nook Coffee Table by Dave Pickett Design Showcase 2011 |

Very cute makeover. There's another wall of shoes on her blog that's not shown here but it does look rather light on clothes. Before & After: Jen's Glam Closet |

Have to agree with B from Stockholm: there's nothing here I haven't seen in a dozen other places. The fourth picture (with the silver bag) looks like stuff TK Maxx has been selling for years. H&M Home: Finally Launching in the US |

I tried this a few years back. Added the new litter gradually to the old so the cats would get used to the new texture. On the day it reached 50/50 old/new, I came home to find the paper litter carefully scooped out of the box and packed into my good shoes. It's a great idea but, clearly, my kitty resists change. I agree with the first comment, especially after seeing that the designers are from St-Hilaire. One of the reasons I'll never move home to Quebec is the staggering levels of cultural ignorance and outright racism, especially against Native people. The rest of Canada isn't perfect by any means but nothing like Quebec. Native American Teepee by Maud Beauchamp & Marie-Pier Guilmain Design Showcase 2011 |

My uncle (who, oddly enough, is *not* a plumber) gives a good-quality plunger when someone moves into their first home. I thought it was odd, but I have been extremely grateful for his gift over the years. 5 Unique Items to Give as Housewarming Gifts |

$90 for an acrylic chair that's not even suitable for desk work isn't "shoestring" in my view. Ditto the $32 cushion. I'm not saying these items aren't worth that much, but they seem like poor choices for a cash-strapped student. Dorm Style: Modern Feminine |

Check first with your municipal office about building codes and permits. My parents have installed wood stoves in two houses (different towns). Both required a building permit, preapproval of plans and, in the second case, an inspection by the fire marshal after installation. How To Finish Area around Wood Stove? Good Questions |
