You don't need to crimp to put cat5 in the walls, just punch down into blocks. Anyone can punch down. Then you buy cables to go from the wall to the adapter at your TV.

I have that lamp, and the shade did exactly as you subscribe, even with the properly-rated CFL bulb from IKEA.

What I ended up doing was to take the shade off the lamp, flatten it, and then wrap it around in the opposite direction than it was originally wrapped. It's a near-perfect cylinder again, and has been for a few months so far.

Trish: Right, all those other blogs source the same Designboom post that doesn't mention wine. (But I said that already.)

Consider: Would wine work in a thermometer? (No.)

What makes you think it's filled with red wine? The linked designboom page says it's an alcohol thermometer, which makes sense, but an alcohol thermometer is usually ethanol or toluene with dye added to make it visible.

And any other pages I can find that call it a red wine thermometer also link to the designboom page. I can't find any first-hand reference to it containing red wine.

A thermometer made from something fermenting (and which undergoes further fermentation after bottling) doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, nor does an alcohol thermometer with only 15% alcohol.

(That might explain why it reads 29 degrees both on the wall and in someone's hand, I suppose.)

Panasonic is the same company as Technics and Quasar, so: turntables! Microwaves!

That custom-built subwoofer box appears to be an IKEA HOL end table/storage box (which is great for storing running electronics, but isn't custom-built!)

I think this particular version falls under "lame", because those don't look the least like actual skateboard decks -- but the same thing made out of an actual skateboard deck would have a much better chance. Doubly so if the skateboard deck was well-used.

Belkin's Conceal is 3/4 of this, at 1/3 of the price. The only substantial difference is that it doesn't hide the wall socket too, but a cable coming straight down from a wall socket into a baseboard-height box is pretty clean.

I especially like how the Conceal has one external plug on it, so you can still plug in one thing when you need to without opening it up.

H.B. Smith is a boiler company, and they do indeed seem to supply the NYCHA. So you don't need to find H.B. Smith, you need to figure out who makes brushes for H.B. Smith.

I can see its use as a laptop desk, but with that shelf for the PC tower, I'd think they'd have some place to put a keyboard and mouse.

Enrique: You should be able to do that with a plain USB cable and Blackberry Desktop.

(Which is what I came in here to wonder about: what does this give you that a $10 USB cable and your phone manufacturer's software doesn't?)

A nice idea, but who has only one thing to charge? The last thing I want to do when I stop charging my phone and start charging my headset or my mp3 player or my camera is unwind one cord and wind another in, and leaving all of them wound just means a different pile of dangling cables.
