I travel with peanut butter too! You can't bring a full size jar on the flight with you, but you put in checked luggage. And you can buy the individual packs for your flight. Lessons From Traveling Abroad: Always Carry Peanut Butter |

This is a little tricky. We give our kids (ages 6,5,4 and 3) a pep talk before holidays and birthdays. We talk again about even if it's not what you hoped for you need to be thankful you got a gift and saying thank you for each present received. They are learning and getting better each year. I am of a different school of thought than most of the commentators. We did very little child proofing in our home, no gate on the stair, no drawer or cupboard locks, didn't pad the rock fireplace; and my children all made it past toddlerhood without major injury. That said, we didn't have that big of a straight drop either, I agree with those who suggested a movable screen behind the couch. If you want to do something a little more permanent you could extend the railing behind the couch to the ceiling. Something Safe but Stylish for Childproofing? Good Questions |

We are apparently in the minority, but our dog is not allowed on any furniture - ever. She is part of our family too, has plenty of toys, a few soft pillows/floor cushions of her own, but knows that she is absolutely not allowed on the furniture. She is still an animal and travels to parts of our property that we have never been, she is big and often dirty from playing outside (we do not live in a neighborhood, but out of town with space to roam) and I don't want that on the places I snuggle with my freshly bathed kids. I have two boys that are Ethiopian born. I cook with berbere all the time. I learned to cook Ethiopian when we were in process to bring my first son home and then refined my cooking with lessons from a friends mom while in Ethiopia. It is a wonderful spice blend that always brings back memories of picking up my boys. I recently purchased Samuelsson's cookbook and am excited to try some new recipes. Spice Mix: Berbere |

We have a rice bin and a bean bin that I rotate for my kids (ages2,4,4,6) and they all love them. It been fun to watch the progression of play from scooping and pouring to truck play in the bins, to my oldest who gets the Playmobil out to set up in the bins. I really love sensory bins. We love the Ingolf Junior chair. We Have 6 of them, one for each child (ages 2-6) and a couple extra for when friends come. My six year old still loves it, even though she has the option of using a normal chair. IKEA 2013: What's In It For the Kids? |

We have dark floors and light cabinets and I love the look of it. The only thing I don't like is that every little spot shows up on the dark floors. I have 4 kids (6 and under) and they drip water and milk and juice and track dirt; and every water spot and speck of dirt shows on our dark floors. It wasn't something I thought about when we picked the floor. I don't know if you have kids or are planning on them, but it's something to think about. @Krikkit - I couldn't agree more! I live in part of the country where fires are currently raging in 3 areas. Our firefighters are maxed out and the air is filled with smoke. All fireworks shows for the 4th have been cancelled. A wet blanket, maybe? But protecting people, property and our beautiful wild spaces is more important this year. While the hooks on top look like they may slip off, I would love to have this kind of swing for my kids, with a better attachment design. A rope swing can encourage a child's imagination and become so much more than just a swing. Living in the north, where many months are just too cold play outside for long, this would be a welcome addition in the winter. Hooks Swing By Chevalier Masson |

I have the pineapple slicer and a cherry pitter (not the one pictured) and I love them both. I have small children (6, 4, 4 & 2) and they love having their pineapple in little rings. And the cherry pitter, well that is just a fun thing for them to do themselves, whether they eat the cherries or are helping me back something. I agree about some of the others; a banana slicer!? I just give my kids a butter knife and they can slice their own banana. On Specialty Fruit Gadgets and Tools: Really Useful or Just Plain Silly? |
