We've had a grown-up home for a while. Even when we were renting, our first tiny loft didn't look that bad. We moved into a condo shortly before getting married, and wedding gifts aside, we've put a significant amount of effort into turning it into a dream home.

I hate articles like this because it leads to CL/Goodwill bragging (cue Macklemore soundtrack), and comments that people who buy new furniture must live in boring Rooms to Go homes. I don't think it really matters where you buy furniture. I'm of the opinion that there's nothing wrong with buying what you REALLY want. I find I waste more money "trading up" only to buy the item I wanted in the first place. Everything in my place, from the chair in the entry way to my cake plate was thought out before purchased. We avoid clutter since we're not continuously shopping for more "stuff" to tie everything together.

I love your home. It really has character and your own personal style!

I just think this is a very, very bad idea. I try not to have my home look too trendy/predictable (See F*** Your Noguchi Coffee Table) but even worse, I wouldn't want to be labeled as The Crazy Lady With Fake Food In Her Kitchen.

I'm already the Crazy French Bulldog lady with a "nursery" for her puppy. But that just shows that even if I think this sounds weird/creepy that it's probably not the best idea!

We use Reidel standard white and standard red glasses. They're great quality and a classic.

My husband and I moved to Chicago last year. Fortunately, he grew up in the suburbs so we at least had his high school friends to fall back on. I've made a few female friends in the city and try to make an active effort to introduce myself to other women in my fitness classes. It's been harder for my husband to meet other guys in the city, but part of it is he's also shy.

We're both late 20s without children. We've found that getting a puppy has increased interactions with people in our neighborhood 1000x over. More people introduced themselves in a day than the last year we've lived here.

I dislike mix matched chairs because it reminds me of catalogs.

This post is how Apartment Therapy should be. It's annoying scrolling through expansive house tours, where some homes even took on an addition.

Richard and Bill's place shows that a lot of creativity and good taste can turn small, urban dwellings into magnificent homes.

I would put beadboard over the tile before I would think about reglazing.

I don't doubt that the posters here who have done it have lovely bathrooms, but I've seen a bathroom destroyed with it. Imagine chipping off and showing the pink tile underneath. I don't know if it was DIY or what (they bought from a flipper) but it looked really, really bad.

I know that when we purchased our new appliances for our remodel, we could sign up for a recycling program and receive a $100 rebate.

I can't imagine this young couple would turn something like this down.

I think it still looks like a home and I'm sure this home reflects the owners' personalities.

My husband would be completely at home here since he likes thoughtful minimalism. If he were living alone, he would want only the bare minimum in his space. In fact, this home might even have too many accessories for his taste.

I think the owners did a wonderful job for the look they are going for. Not everyone likes quirky or eclectic design.

As much as I love exposed brick and interesting features like an archway, the home is now so much lighter... and having more natural light fill the space will pay off in energy savings.

We have dark speckled granite (black, espresso brown, and copper tones) counter tops and while I lust after white marble counter tops, our condo's previous owner had them put in only three years ago... we're saving a lot of money during our kitchen re-do by keeping them and the cabinets.

Our counter tops are clean, even though they are dark, because I like that shiny/glossy look that comes when they are wiped down properly.

I agree with above posters that mentioned that the article isn't about wealth. I have some friends that have sophisticated homes that look put together well on a shopgirl budget (through DIY restoring, stalking sales, utilizing gift cards) and I've been in some homes where the owners keep investing into less expensive trendy items that don't go well together at all, and will likely be thrown out or given away in five years.

Just a quick browse on Pinterest and someone can see how to make their own napkins, curtains, hand soaps, and even stored snacks rather cheaply. Sheets and towels are not something I would buy used, but you can usually find the same high-end department store brands on sale via Amazon. I managed to get Dwell Studio bedding from Anthro on sale once for $19.95!

I sincerely think the article's intent was to start a discussion on how the homes of employed and self-sufficient adults vary from say, college students or those suffering from Peter Pan syndrome.

My husband and I are in our late 20s, and we're proud of our "grown up" home. We lived in a total wreck during college and now we're incredibly grateful to own a fully furnished home with high quality furniture. Right now we're redoing the kitchen.

Also, having a big wedding helps immensely. I wouldn't exactly go out and buy 10 place settings of fine china or a full set of crystal bar ware on a whim, but that tends to be the kinds of things you receive as wedding gifts. It's nice to be able to host more formal entertaining from time to time, compared to our BYOB and red cup college days.

I live in a 1,088 sqft loft and somehow I don't have room for an egg chair or dining room table... Major kudos to Heather for making her place so beautiful and functional!
