I have nest and I think that their biggest marketing point - learning is completely useless. Not because it doesn't work, it works quite well actually but because it is a lengthy process that may or may not work depending on how you set your temperature. It would never work for where I live because even though it's technically winter, temperatures go from 60F to 30F in matter of hour or overnight. This thing can't keep up. What I got it for its scheduling system and ability to remotely control every aspect of it via browser or an iOS app. That alone is worth the asking price to me!

I always find it funny that someone would have $5000 in computer equipment on their desk then have a dry erase board to manage their tasks or whatever.

For me the problem with most of these is aesthetics. Price point doesn't really matter because it's not really about saving money for me. Simplicity, functionality and style matter more. This is where Nest comes in. Mobile app etc is just a gimmick to have 'features' to brag about. The device like this needs to do one task and do it well.

Agreed, speakers are amazing! Since I can't afford them and I am in the process of building a case I just might use that as inspiration.
