There are different kinds of double-sided tape. You'll just have to find one that is heat resistant.

For me a thin-lipped, wide-handled mug is ideal. I have one (small) mug that I was apparently given as a baby. The handle is rectangular and large enough to fit all four fingers through and it's decorated with pretty kitties. My other favourite was also a gift, also a generous handle and a thin lip.

This is a research paper - they can't make sweeping statements, they have to back it up with statistics. If they don't have data on the clinical significance of pesticide residues, then they can't make a comment about it.

The paper's authors concluded with this:
In summary, our comprehensive review of the published literature on the comparative health outcomes, nutrition, and safety of organic and conventional foods identified limited evidence for the superiority of organic foods.

The evidence does not suggest marked health benefits from consuming organic versus conventional foods, although organic produce may reduce exposure to pesticide residues and organic chicken and pork may reduce exposure to antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Which is precisely what most of the commentators on the topic have said. It's not their job to tell the consumers what to do, they can only state the facts they have at their disposal. And people seem to forget that this was a research paper, aimed at fellow researchers, not the public at large. The general public can't even download the whole article.

In my experience, whatever you make, leave out ingredients that create gas (onions, broccoli etc.) The littlest babies often don't manage those well.

I usually make some type of pasta, most recently ginger, spinach and cheddar chicken pasta. Equally tasty with or without onions.

Maybe put a cup of water in the oven with your bread? As it evaporates it'll simulate the gas burning.

Random fact, the one of the chemical structures of capsaicin is the same as in vanillin, so in theory, having vanilla and chilli together might prevent the extreme burn, since the vanillin will compete with the capsaicin.

I was invited to three weddings this year, all good friends. Couple 1 had a gift registry, I bought them a lovely glass jug from the registry, which ended up breaking before they even opened it (so did the other person who got the same). So, after advising the new wife on her first baking experience, and realising she had no measuring cups, I got her a very basic set of those. She can still use the money from the jug for something else, but I wanted to give her something from me.

Couple 2 also had a registry (but stated cash also welcome), but my "special gift" was given at the kitchen tea. It's kinda funny though, she must have gotten at least 3 chopping boards at the kitchen tea.

Couple 3 asked (very tongue-in-cheek) for money for their honeymoon, since hubby is a chef, with all the bells and whistles, and all other household items. It was a bit weird, putting cash in the card, but I'd rather give them what they ask for.

Nothing more comforting that a mug of rooibos tea on a cold winters day. I also drink the espresso version (made by Redespresso) as a cappuccino, with honey. hmmm

@marywynn

Rooibos is at its best not only steeped, but simmered on the stove for a while. We often use our enamel teapot for it. Or I make it in a mug and microwave for a while.

@emmi

The farms I've been to all harvest by hand. It's usually grown on smallish scale. A lot of those are organic too. And there are a few income-generation-projects for the poorer farm workers.

In South Africa we have two kinds of "pap". The one like ugali is called "stywe pap" (stiff porridge) and the other type is called "krummelpap" is more crumbly and dry, and is usually served with "smoor", a tomato and onion sauce. And we'll eat it sweet too, with milk and sugar. Very versatile dish :)

Napolitana sauce:

One smallish onion, finely chopped
Two tins of tomato (I use one ~400g chopped, one ~400g pureee)
1-2 cloves of garlic
One cup of red wine
Fresh origanum, finely chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Olive oil

Saute onions in olive oil over low heat till soft (5-10 minutes), same for garlic
Add red wine and reduce
Add tomato and origanum
Bring to the boil, then simmer for 20 minutes

Serve with pasta

Reading about painting I'm reminded of the one episode where Mr Bean paints his room. Directly over the wallpaper, with his teddy bear's head as a brush. Until he gets bored and decides exploding a fire cracker in the paint bucket is the better option. Then he covers everything that shouldn't be painted (including the individual fruit in a bowl) in newspaper.

Object lesson in how not to paint your room.

Cool. I'm currently in a raptor phase (thanks to Mercedes Lackey's Velgarth books), so doubly cool on that score. It's similar to the trend in some areas (including South Africa) to use Anatolian Shepherd Dogs to prevent attacks on sheep by leopards and cheetahs. This gives the farmers an alternative to hunting them.

We have a brand of peanut butter that doesn't have anything other than peanuts in it, it keeps on the shelf. But even then, it's quite solid, so the ratio of peanut solids to oil is probably too low for it to split. It rarely forms a thin layer of oil if the jar is scooped out in the middle.

We have a lemon tree in our garden, so I love making lemon meringue pie, but I've had wildly varying juice yield from the lemons. One week they all looked perfectly ripe, but three "normal sized" lemons didn't yield nearly enough juice, so I had to go lemon hunting in the dark, with my torch to find a few more. Two weeks later, I had a handful of smallish lemons, that yielded double the amount of juice I needed, so I made pie and a warm lemon drink.

ps The recipe calls for a volume of juice, can't remember how much now, but it's a lot.
