I agree with PaulaSimone and Parnassus. Keep the walls white and paint the table and chairs. If you want bright light cottage look go with a light green blue or yellow. If you want modern or moody go with a deep rich color like navy blue. And definitely take the fire extinguisher and pot holders down. Wall Color Ideas with Dark Kitchen Cabinets? Good Questions |

I suggest going BIG.. Do an L shaped narrow desk that wraps around the kitchen from bookshelf underneath window to your wood cart/counter. Make the desk out of ash or pine (same color as your cart/counter) and consider painting your kitchen table and bookshelf your favorite color(s) to mix things up. Definitely lose the desk/office chair and replace it with one that can double as extra seating at the kitchen table or at least looks less office like. For the window go with a roman shade with a nice pattern that coordinates with your new kitchen table color. Ideas for Fitting a Workspace into Kitchen/Dining Room? Good Questions |

Listen to DovieAnn. Also do you have a dining table. If you place a dining table and a beautiful lighting fixture in the middle if the living room/foyer this will automatically make the dining room table and fixture the focus of the room. If you can watch tv from chairs instead of a couch then consider removing the couch altogether and placing the dining table in the center of the room. Then move the tv stand to the short end of the room (the one without the corridor entry). Consider investing in a setee that can be used as a banquette for the dining table to make things a little more cozy. Small Living/Dining Room Layout Ideas? Good Questions |

They don't go with Minimalist nor does the sofa. Minimalism is any design or style in which the simplest and fewest elements are used to create the maximum effect. It is reductive which means not just a reduction of the number of furniture pieces in your home but a reduction of the elements that make up that furniture. I concur with ome. In this era and style of home the fireplace was necessary but it was not necessarily the focal point. This room would have served as the parlor and therefore multiple sitting arrangements would be completely appropriate. Layout of Living Room with a Corner Fireplace? Good Questions |

What a great space! I love the tile even though it is more than likely asbestos tile. So If you must feel new flooring is a must then proceed with caution and be prepared to pay for hazardous removal and disposal. The floors look to be slightly different levels so even floating might result in removing parquet which I'm assuming has the tile underneath it. Brooklyn Studio Update Ideas? Good Questions |

Follow everything Rural and Rueful suggested. I Would also suggest getting several low cubes or crates line them up next to each other and place a piece of wood over them so it looks like a low built in storage bench that wraps around from window that lonely plat you have in the corner. Then place the tv and speakers on/in it. good luck How Can I Bring Life To My New Rental? Good Questions |

ValSJ, The reason I and others suggest gravel is because it's permeable. Water will go through it. Perhaps, I should have been more specific but if one does a mixture of 90% gravel and 10% soil just on the very top of the gravel you can grow some small plants. All without damaging the concrete. However, you are correct. Everything needs to be landlord approved regardless of what anyone thinks will look good or be functional in the space. How To Work with Uneven Patio? Good Questions |
