Untreated wood matters because of the chemicals it contains. We are careful to use organic soil and organic farming methods and adding chemicals through treated wood seems like a bad idea.

notavictorianlady - If there is a way for you to collect the condensation and you have a use for it I think it is worth it. One thing to consider is how clean your roof is and what volume of water you can collect. It is usually a good idea to dump the first flush of a rainfall outside of your barrel because it contains everything that has landed on your roof since the last rainfall. If you can only collect a small amount of water it probably isn't worth the expense of installing a barrel.

Sleeping outside is different than sleeping indoors. Outside, I trade a solid night's sleep for a night of waking to more natural rhythms: the birds chirping at 3:30 a.m., the college kid arriving home next door at 1:30 a.m. and the sunrise before 6:00 a.m. I find that I awake a tad less refreshed and much more connected to the day before it even begins.
