LoseIt allows you to save a recipe - you enter the ingredients and the number of servings, and it saves that as an item you can use and reuse. I make the Oatmeal Breakfast Clafoutis from Chocolate & Zucchini a lot in the colder months, and it's easy to just select 1 serving and go. What's also nice is that you can re-select a meal you've had in the last few months, so if you like me tend to eat a lot of the same things, it's very convenient.

I lost 15 pounds on LoseIt, and then I stopped using it and gained 10 of them back! So I'm back on it. The forums are very useful, and for a small additional cost it'll sync your FitBit or other fitness tracker.

If you are close enough friends, it might be nice to get something small and kid-focused now, and in a couple of weeks bring over something more substantial.

I have an abstract portrait of myself, done 20 years ago (yipes!), hanging in my living room. People compliment me on it all the time, and usually don't realize it's me unless I tell them.

I have a long and narrow entry hallway that I have been planning for a while to line on one side with family photos - I have some very good black and white ones from the 60s and 70s, and a few great recent ones too. I was inspired by a downstairs neighbor whose entryway is all Broadway posters - why shouldn't the entry to your house reflect what you care about most?

Leftovers here too - last night's "Cajun" pasta dish: chicken, chicken andouille, onion, green and red peppers, garlic, Cajun seasoning, sour cream, bacon, tomatoes and fusili. There was enough that I might have it for lunch again tomorrow!

I have the Room & Board "Gigi" chair, which is very similar, and I love it. But yes, go look for slipper chairs and you will find a wide range. Good luck.

I would never have bought an apartment without a bath - to each their own! I do think a *large* stand-up shower could be a selling-point for certain buyers, though.

That first shot of the living room has a great old Glasgow vibe to it. I wish the layout was a little less flat-screen-on-the-wall-centric, though.

Making your own linen spray is super-simple and dirt cheap. Distilled water, vodka, and essential oils. Spend a buck at your local dollar store for a spray bottle, and you're laughing.

However, you should still air out your bed!

Yeah, it looks decent in the staged room, but the strongest vibe I'm getting from this shelving is "mid-level boutique."

I like the Penzey's line of soup bases. It's definitely less salty than many comparable products.

I use large and small Mason jars for dried fruit, dried mushrooms, beans, grains, and nuts. I have large Ikea glass storage canisters for flours, but if I were buying again, I would buy the Oxo pop-ups; they are very good for storing on standard shelves, and maximize the usable space while still leaving enough room for you to get your hands around a container on a crowded shelf. They are significantly more pricey than Mason jars, though.

I too love using Mason jars for storage, and so I try to use their limitations to my advantage; it's very easy to buy too much when you are buying from the bulk bins, especially when you are cooking for only one or two. Visualizing the storage jar/amount of space on the shelf can help keep you from splurging on things you don't need and might not use.

I solved the digging for the full set of sheets problem by paring back to three sets of sheets (one on the bed, one in the under-bed storage, one in the laundry) from the same line, in complimentary neutrals. That way even if I decide to mix and match, it's OK.

The only flaw is that the line has now been discontinued (of course), so I am hoping these sheets last for a while!

I don't know if they used this method or not, but the previous owner of my apartment painted over the tile floor in the bathroom, and the paint has chipped and peeled over time. It looks awful! So, forewarned, etc.

Oh, and it also makes it easy to freeze and reheat grains. I don't know how that would compare to doing that on the stovetop, because it's a practice I didn't start until I moved to the new apartment, but reheating frozen brown rice in the microwave means I have brown rice as an option even when I haven't planned ahead.

I didn't have one for years and didn't miss it. My new apartment came with one built-in over the stove, and I like it a lot, because it's smart enough for me to hit "Reheat" and walk away, and it actually works.

I love using the microwave for poached eggs, which are a pain in the ass to make on the stovetop, and I have an addiction to microwave popcorn that I'm trying to break.

I agree with all of these, especially the cleaning person. Particularly if you're not the sort of person who works off their stress by scrubbing the kitchen (and yes I know some of those people), it's a life-saver.

I would add that with furniture or lighting, spending a little more for the thing you really want, rather than settling for the budget option, is worth saving up for if you can. I have several items in my home that gave me heart attacks when I first bought them (lighting fixtures that cost more than some of the furniture, e.g.), but which have given me pleasure every single day that I have owned them. Totally worth the price.
