Already awesome home with still some potential to make it a home run. I agree that the front needs a little more continuity. Awesome that an HOA doesn't control the allowed colors of a front door.

Christine, I bookmarked your house last year during the house tour and was hoping to see this entered into the contest. The happy bread painting inspired me to paint a cartoon taco affectionately named Taco Ted that helps my better half and I celebrate Taco Tuesday.

We love the color; color just calmly screams happiness. Happiness is the feeling I want to experience after a long day's work. Good job!

Some of the comments on this post are just plain elitist. Design is in the eye of the beholder. Much like art or music, people should decorate with what they love! Just because a book is 70 years old doesn't mean that the words inside it are magical. Some books back then were just plain terrible. Repurposing it into a piece of art like this is a great idea. I would bet that a majority of posters that wrote "Book Killer" wouldn't honestly pick this book up and read it cover to cover. They would just enshrine it on their book shelf where it gets dusty without ever researching what that book is about.

You have the right to not like something, I agree. Those that write this idea off as dumb or wrong would probably be surprised to find that a lot of people wouldn't like their style either. Who cares if this won't be "in" in 15 or 20 years? Do what you love now and be willing to adapt with the times and your ever-changing style.

I always like to keep an open mind and willingness to clean about Craigslist stuff, but my secret is to be able to travel for good deals. I got our kitchen table (a bright yellow and white formica top with white strawberry accents) in fantastic condition for $25. The only stipulation was that it was 6 hours away in Cleveland. Even with the crazy travel, it was such a steal.

Just this week I found two seafoam green Herman Miller style fiberglass chairs I bought for $60. They are "Tech Fab" but look just like the Eames chairs and are from the 60s. They will look awesome in my space.
