As someone who has found their material reposted on Apartment Therapy (uncredited), I understand where the NYT is coming from. And I have seen photos here from other blogs & newspapers that don't appear to be properly credited or using more than a significant portion to be "fair use" ... and without any editorial addition to the content.

Yes, it would have been nice if the NYT contacted you and had a nice conversation about it but I have tried to contact you guys before for a nice conversation and have gotten nowhere in the past. (And have had similar problems with HuffPo.)

I agree with sjvsjv, sites that create wholly original content are constantly battling with aggregation sites - yes it's "nice" for the exposure, but aggregators can't survive without someone out there actually writing, kitchen testing & photographing this stuff to begin with.

I've tried almost all of them.

I really liked the Guittard Grand Cacao and their new Akoma Fair Trade Baking Chips (lavender bag).

I've been using the Equal Exchange cocoas to make chocolate pudding. (Too hot right now, but soon.)

I haven't been that keen on the Dagoba nibs, they always seem a bit fibery.

Green & Black's also has some nice cocoa & hot chocolate that's fair trade.

If you can't link to the original story about Kissables that I did, could you at least remove or attribute my photographs?

SleepyDweller - some bloggers submitted their own work, others submitted their favorite posts they'd spotted - so until the visitors started coming to "spotted" site, the blogger had no idea they were featured there.

(Some bloggers did not wish to have their photos placed on tastespotting, because they weren't always credited within the text, only via the link - which as we all know, is not adequate in the era of "I found it on the net, it's free.")

Okay, I don't know what went on with Tastespotting, but I'd like to clear up some misconceptions.

Google images is considered fair use because it's a thumbail. Sites can opt out of image search (or any search) by placing appropriate code on their site. Many do.

Tastespotting was using 250 px photos, not a thumbail and there was no "opt out" code.

Some bloggers do not want free advertising and many do not want their images reposted (often with credit errors or incomplete credit). Further, tastespotting was not blocked for google image search, which meant that a photographer the lost control of that image when it was reposted (and might be credited when reposted from there but as often happens, it would be credited to tastespotting, not to the originator).

As for opting out, last I heard, Tastespotting did not have a blacklist for bloggers who did not wish to be featured. Not to mention the fact that copyright does not require that someone opt out of having it violated. It should have been incumbent upon Tastespotting to develop a "safe list" of bloggers who opted in for reposting of their material. Or contacting those and asking permission. It was a curated site, not everything submitted would be posted.

Yes, that's a solution, but it's a heck of a lot more work than just going into a queue and picking out pretty things and clicking "okay".

We put in bamboo floors about four years ago (we had some vinyl tiles that were poorly installed by a tenant before we bought the house). Very easy to keep clean and far better than the hard ceramic tiles at our previous place (glass shatters into a billion pieces when you drop something and it's murder on the hips & knees when standing for the whole day).

We considered cork as well, but opted for a continuous look through the entire downstairs of our open floorplan.

That solves the whole microwaving thing with the metal bowl. (Right now I melt things in the microwave in a separate bowl, but that means one more dirty bowl.)

I got the round set for Christmas and then went out and bought two more sets of the rectangular ones. Great for storing stuff in the fridge so you can actually SEE what's in there, perfect for microwave and taking to work.

I make my caramels with sugar, corn syrup (or rice syrup), butter and evaporated milk (not condensed and not cream).

I think she's boiling it too high.

I only go to 232 degrees ... soft ball stage. Most of the time I don't even use a thermometer, just test with a glass of water.

Here's my recipe:

I've been eating sprouts & cream cheese since I was a kid. One of my favorite sandwiches. Now that I'm older I really like daikon or radish sprouts, they give it a little pep.

Also, another good one is watercress (we used to gather it fresh when I was a kid). I had a sandwich with the pea shoots recently but did find them a little too woody and stringy for my tastes.
