Its less of a "seasonal" thing for me lately, living in the Puget Sound area for the last three years. Winter coats can go into hiberation, and some sweaters. Everything else is basically needed. I wear tank tops as layers year round, as with most skirts. So blazers and cardigans stay handy, especially on office work days. I don't own any shorts or summer specific dresses, that I won't wear when I'm dying to just be COMFORTABLE at home. (Those would be my true favorite things maxi dresses.) When you're on a tight budget like I am things tend to be multi seasonal. Shoes are the main thing that I switch gears with. Fall/Winter/Spring is boots and Summer is sandals.

I do enjoy a good purge once or twice a year to make sure that I don't over horde clothing! (Somewhat of a challenge I must admit.)

I love the farm house table too!

Spare closets? Space? Supplies that will fit in a closet?

These are dreams. Appriciate this. My apartment is just too small for my wardrobe and my art AND my sewing.

While I am unsure of most of the before, I can see it not being desireable by most New Jersey people. ( Hey I would consider myself one... my accent proves it.)

I'm just dissapointed. The end result is nice, in that sterotypical sense. There is no personality in the space.

And frankly I am BORED with these results. They are common and banal. Doesn't help that the blue they chose for the main area is probably my least favorite color of all colors ever.

At least the hardwood floors turned out nice yes?

To goodwill to find parts for this! I have the poster board and fabric. Just need the right sized rings. Heck i might just buy them retail ( with my joann's coupon of course). My light that helps my closet is bad vintage, as compared with the good vintage I like. I can't wait to do this!!

I'm in a similar situation, only I am the bottom unit! I understand that shower noises, normal walking, cleaning and some TV sounds are expected with bottom apartments, especially one as old as mine. I moved in before the family above me did, so offically I was there first. They do more than just live in their apartment. They have a young child, as well as some older kids.

The noise is non stop. Some days from 5 am to 11 pm. Its not average life noise. Its children literally banging around so much that my cabinets have opened, my belongings in them rattle and shake, and my other belongings will shutter. Its like an actual earthquake. I've had visitors come over and exclaim. "WHAT IS THAT?!"

I've actually called management one day when i was home sick with a fever, BEGGING them to ask them to do something different. It was quiet for about 45 minutes.

I'm to the point where I want to fight fire with fire.

Thanks for making me not feel alone.

As a reader who lives and works in Seattle, I can't WAIT to see pics. I love seeing what works out here, which naturally won't work for other locals with different challenges.

I felt the same way when my Mother came to visit and thought my place was nice and cute.

Depends greatly on budget. There are some fabulous hanging lighting from Restoration Hardware that would complement the moulding greatly, but may be too costly. They do though, have sales, and considering I don't know the size of the space, come in different scales like small and large.

For example my thought for the entryway:

Personally, I love this one and think it would be a good fit in any of the spots.

Ideas for Ceiling Fixtures to Complement Decorative Molding? Good Questions

Yes these are lovely closet inpirations.

None of them ever look like functional closets to me. Who only has 4 tops to hang up, with one jacket and three dresses? I may horde/obesses over clothing more than the average person, but I can't be the only one who has more than two pairs of jeans and sweaters to store in their closet. I do the best I can with the space I have and the belongings I have. Mind you I routinely give to Goodwill and consign items every season, I suppose I could live with less, but I'd be unhappy, and frankly it would make me cranky to only get to choose from three dresses to wear to that party!

This doesn't also address the issues of closets in rentals. How does one on a budget, with simple spaces, organize a REAL closet?

You have great looking counter tops! I say pull a few colors out of that to test near the color of the wood. Go for a cool, complementary color. If it were any other room of the house I might suggest throwing caution to the wind and using a terracotta red and really playing up the western and southwest feel of the cabinet.

The light bulb idea is also important. It will change your whole perspective of the colors in the room, and since it is a bathroom, how well you can use the space functionally!

Rachel I hope you're right about the lighting. I have the most devine antique/vintage chandeller that was once my great grandmothers, I use what I love, but still it would be nice to have validation from the outside. Its been with me through several moves and theres no way I'll get rid of it. Its worn brass and crystal, and just whispers class.

I am embracing the white walls, so that the art can show concept as well. Its a look that any renter can do.

Trend Prediction: What Do You Think is The Next Big Thing?

If only, If only I could have a house bunny, but alas I have developed, after years of rabbit ownership, severe clergies to all things related to them.
Not sure if it was mentioned already or not, but they're just like cats. (If you train them to use the litter box, which is not horrifically hard actually.)

So my goal to make my house happier is, in the spring when they are in season and the weather more cooperative, to get a new baby parrot.

When in doubt you could always have it custom made. It wouldn't even be that outragous. Use craiglist or other local sites to find local metal workers/ welders. Most would be willing to Make and paint the metal frame to the size you want. Then you can add or talk to a woodworker about adding the wood parts.

But thats if shopping for one fails I suppose.

According to the state of Washington the Landlord's Responsibilities are: "11. Fix other appliances that come with the rental."

So if you rented your unit with a stove/oven and a refridgerator and they do not work according to their intended use, it is the landlords full responsibility to fix or replace. You shouldn't even have to go 50% in on any of it.

Save your money and put it to good use else where!

On her original blog post she says the materials cost around 117 dollars. Considering her inspiration piece retailed for over 700 thats substantial savings.

She also used plywood cut to fit and screwed into the tire with wood screws.

What I'd love is to see some way to make this with storage on the inside. Storage is always key for me.

One dream of mine has always been to have a coffee table made out of a Firehawk Racing tire. Doesn't exactly match the rest of my decor but I'd make an appropriate cave to go with it. They sold a table such as this ONCE and it ended up going for over 4,000 dollars. Out of my budget, but it was for Dan Wheldon.

Although you could even use the front of the doors on tthe billy bookcases you suggested and add mirrors to some, and add chalkboard paint in others.

I don't worry so much about cleaning up! I generally like to keep my place in some idea of order for myself. I don't like it when things are too messy, and it only takes about 5 min. a day to keep it this way.

I don't always have food though, as I'm on a tight budget and as one person I get what I need. Extra food money? Doesn't happen often. But I'm creative. Theres always cheese and crackers around anyway because I love the two and are flexable in other dishes even if they aren't new and exciting.
