Pardon my ignorance of American misconcepts of romanticism.... But why would you want to breath in soot, turn your home black and full of carcinogens? It the idea to to heat the place, the fireplace is in the absolutely worst location, and 95% of the heat goes up the chimney. (That's why Franklin invented his stove, to place the heat source in the center of the room, and have the chimney pipe wander around the house.)

Good, very personal taste, without any silly pretentions. Bravo!

I sometimes wish for a photo from the entrance. The transition from the public to the private space is important, as is the surprise that any visitor gets from first entering a home.

1# recomendation for artists working at home: use expensive, fume less turpentine. or acrylics.
2# Don't give in to your urge to work BIG, if you are going to sleep, eat or fold laundry with it in the same room.
3# Forget about being Jackson Pollack. You can't even ride a tricycle over your canvas.
4# If you work in oils, don't even bother changing out of your work rags. You will be bumping into that soggy thing on the easel all the time.
5# Consider creating tiny Persian Minatures.
6# Learn how to restretch canvases, and reuse the stretchers. Rolls are easier to store, than yards of wooden stretchers.
7# Rent a studio, a 15 minute walk away from your kitchen

19th Century Ladies in hoop skirts had a hard time sitting down: the metal hoop construction would rise up in front, as soon as the put their butts down on the chair. The solution was to have the gents turn around, then lift the contraption up, and sit on a backless stool placed inside their many yards of superfluous fabric.

You also can give your kids crayons and a white wall.
I never actually thought of hanging artwork over a bath tub. I mean, if it is intended to be looked at, and not just be a rectangle hung on a rearguard wall, it is rather hard to stare at it while soaking on your back.
I once had a friend, who tacked a poster of the Sistine Chapel on the ceiling above her toilet. Now that was cool! I mean, looking up at it at the same angle as one would look up at the original!
Inspired by her, I tacked a poster of Michelangelo's Delphic Sybil above my toilet. Because I'm a guy, I had lots of opportunities to look at it.

I rarely go out shopping in my home country. Yet when I go to the US twice a year, to visit family, I find that half of my non- family time is spent shopping, rather than going into NYC to museums of look up old friends. I have a sense of panic, that if I don't take advantage of the cheep US prices NOW, I will spend so much more at home.
Ben Franklin wrote that nothing is more expensive, than never turning down a bargain.
(The fact that American clothing all seems to be cut for whales, has made turning down shopping easier.)
So rather than buying gifts that fill closets, I just go to over priced Whole Foods, and buy a stash of funky American boutique chocolates, maple syrup, and other delicacies. And a discount art supply store. (the tubes of paint get eaten up too!)
And rather than massage my soul with a fashion statement, Twice a year I get a good massage!

After deciding that my goal as an artist is NOT to replace my NGO landlord's loss of donations, I moved to a cheaper, and alas much smaller studio. just when my canvases started getting much larger. Ouch. From 65 to 41 sq meters, and alas, with oversized bathroom and kitchenette. (From about 650 sq feet, to 410)

I hope that you sell lots, so much that even when you paint up a storm of good works, that the storage rack stays half empty.

I respect your cleanliness and order. I only seem to be able to clean up after myself when cooking. (Fear of my wife at home, and of roaches I the studio)

Your colors and objects are wacky and adventurous, yet I noticed an underlying traditional, conventional layout, that lends peace to your living room.
While excessive symmetry, can be dreary in "play it safe" homes (identical pairs of mirrors framing windows, and paired easy chairs flanking the fireplace) in your home, symmetry plays the "straight" character in your charming comedy of errors.

BTW you are also correct about the white walls. I painted my entire home soft shades of orange, with terra cotta floors. Then I made the mistake of using the same paint for my painting studio. It devours my paintings, and I find myself avoiding certain tubes of paint, because they look so sickly in that room.

Any Arts and Crafts movement enthusiast, would be horrified by the idea of removing them. They look hand made and unique. Yet they are in lousy shape. Still, if the place was mine, and not a rental I would keep them.
The mantle is simple, well proportioned and lovely.

Fantastic and unusual! I agree that the upholstery is wrong. The rigid plaid is an insipid contrast to the lovely curves. The straight legs on the other hand, area delightful contrast. Try both a small curvy, foliage prints, and bold, wide stripes.

My wife's grandparents left Germany in 1933, early enough to take some of their possessions. They had a wonderful Biedermeier dining set - tho the chairs were nothing compared to yours. We inherited the buffet, complete with the marks made by the British Mandate customs agents prying the drawers open.

Heh, I am an artist. some of the people here seem to think that they are still in some day camp's arts and crafts lanyard making session. DO NOT apply any chemical substances to the paper. You have no idea how they will stain the paper, resolve the paper or allow removing.
This is an impressive piece. And very fragile, so protect it well.
Some paper cuts are indeed just decorative craft projects. This one is art, and one of a kind.
Similar paper cuts can be made from Tyvek (the synthetic paper that some envelopes are made from) Tyvek can't compare to the beauty, textures and colors of nice papers, but it is very strong and waterproof, so you can leave it unframed.

BTW I also hate putting my artwork behind glass. It looses so much life. but there sometimes ain't no choice if you want it to last.

The white cabinets work much better: The white appliances scattered throughout the complicated room, aggressively angled soffits and and fussy cabinet doors, all created a sense of confusion.
The appliances are not beautiful. They now blend into the rest of the kitchen. Without the yucky fluorescents, the quieter soffits now add interest, rather than confusion.

Can one use any of these stench removing techniques directly on a person? Co-worker? Business associate? Friend?
This week a lady visited me at work, trying to sell me a service. First she sat in her closed car, smoking. She parked right in front of my window, so I saw her spray something into her mouth, and then she came in. Like so many woman smokers, she must have doused herself with half a gallon of perfume that morning. That helped about as much as spraying deodorant on dog poop smeared on the sidewalk.
