I don't have little ones of my own yet, but as a KG teacher, I have to second ek76's advice to give your child the chance to figure things out on his own. Kids are truly amazing and they like to feel independent. Someone once said that the greatest injustice we can do to a child is to do something for him that he can do for himself. I try to remember that! New Parenthood: Learning Along The Way Adventures of a New Parent |

What a beautiful space you have! I love the baskets on the wall in the kitchen. So creative! I was just looking at some baskets like that, but I didn't really want them taking up counter space. Eunice's Clean & Well-Lit Place House Tour |

I have a couch similar to #6. I've had it for about 3 years now (purchased new). I like it, but after a while I started wishing I had chosen something more neutral. Finding throw pillows that 1) I like and 2) that match seems impossible. I have the same issue with area rugs, too. Just something for my fellow red couch lovers to keep in mind... :) Cherry Bomb: Ruby Red Sofas |

I just went to Ikea for the first time this week (the closest one is a few hours away). I was amazed. Your home is one of my favorites! I absolutely love the updates that you did in the kitchen and bathroom. They fit it very well with the age of the home and look like they were there originally. (I mean that in a very good way!!!) Thanks for the inspiration! Enjoy your lovely space! Matt Makes His Tiny Rental into a Home House Tour |

and the ceiling medallions as wall art? Absolute genius. I was just looking at some beautiful, inexpensive ones the other day and sighing b/c I have no fancy lighting (and can't afford it anyways). Thanks for showing a different way to use them! Joi & David's A+ Illusion of Luxury House Tour |

I'm a little late getting here, so you may never see this, but... Joi, don't quit your day job!!! Your home is so beautiful, fun and creative, and I'm sure that creativity goes into your teaching. @ sukie: I love all of your advice. So many people assume that couples wait to have children b/c of financial concerns. As a fellow teacher (and someone who grew up in a home that was short on cash but abundant with love), I see that kids need love, stability, and guidance to thrive. My husband and I can't wait to provide those things for our child... someday when WE feel ready. 30 Things Readers Wish They Would Have Known |
