While you're there, try Enzo & Piero on via Faienza. They have a great menu with the best prices in Florence: salads start at 5 euro, contorni at 3 euro and secondi (meat course) starting at 7 euro. The street is a block east of the train station.

Judy also has a website Divina Cucina that breaks down her favorite restaurants into neighborhoods. Ask her for the name of the one starting with the word Antico in the Oltrarno neighborhood where her father-in-law used to stop for coffee every day and order the Bistecca Fiorentina there. It will be enough for the 3 of you.

They make a great addition to marmalades with other citrus fruits. I especially love the color they produce and often pair them with Bergamont sour oranges for a fragrant, colorful marmalade. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q213/justafoodie/Preserves/BergamontBloodOrange/DSC02093.jpg

Personally, I love leftovers, they allow me to be creative and invent new appetizers for the next party. I recently morphed parts of these 3 appetizers http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q213/justafoodie/Appetizers/WasabiCaviar.jpg http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q213/justafoodie/Appetizers/DSC00629.jpg http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q213/justafoodie/Appetizers/DetailRicottaPhylloCup.jpg

Using up leftover cheese is a great excuse for inventing new casseroles or side dishes.

To DK10, they do sell bottarga...to the left of the cash register next to the truffle products. This was another stop on my culinary tour of NYC last October and it was not disappointing. I tried the Setaro dried pasta and thought it was an excellent product and very handy in 2 pound packages. More will be going into my suitcases on our next trip.

For my money, the frozen porcini were a real find, and their dried porcini were in great condition, very light in color and extremely fragrant. Most stores do not know how to store these properly, resulting in an oxidized, dark, less fragrant product. All they need is refrigeration.

I'm a San Francisco cook and I went to Arthur Avenue as part of a trip to NYC. It was well worth the time and length of the subway ride. I found many imported Italian items we don't seem to be able to find here on the west coast. I'm still using Star brand porcini bouillion that was purchased there, for half of what it was selling for in Little Italy in Manhattan. Hope this article helps locals make the effort to visit, it's a real treasure you have there.
