We just finished our basement, but couldn't figure out a great solution for our stairs. They are really slippery as we ended up painting them. These would be great for us!

I had my in-laws (mother, father, brother, and nephew) in town for 4 days/5 nights a week ago, and then this past Saturday we had 50 people over for a cocktail party. I'm a little worn out from all the entertaining, so I probably won't get around to posting pictures until this weekend. The party was pretty fun and less stressful than years past as far as getting ready thanks to what I've done so far for the Cure. It would have been nice to have had the kitchen completely cleaned beforehand. Oh well.

Ugh...I still have to do taxes too!

I feel like things are going pretty well, although I still need to post updated pictures. The kitchen is about halfway deep-cleaned, and I plan on making more progress on it this weekend. The landing strips are set up and if I have time later during the Cure I may paint part of it.

We're doing our housewarming parties mid-Cure as last week we had in-laws in town for 5 nights and tomorrow we're hosting our annual cocktail party for 50 people. It's been helpful to do the Cure so far as I don't have to do nearly the amount of cleaning as I normally do in preparation. I'll get back into following the Cure more closely once I recover from tomorrow!

My mom passed away nearly four years ago when I was 25. It took awhile for me to sort through all the inherited stuff. If you are able to take your time, then I think it is best to deal with the stuff as part of the grieving process (I've read/heard that the grieving process typically takes a year or two). When a loved one first passes away, it is hard to let anything go as you already have had to deal with letting go of them.

As time passes, I have found it easier to let go of the things that I kept that I'm not using. The stuff that I truly love I use.

I think the turning point for me is when I felt weighed down by all the clutter I had. The stuff that I didn't use had turned into clutter and not memories of my mom. Only then was I able to donate or throw things out. Eventually I had to move forward and not be bogged down with clutter from the past.

I agree that you should try to keep the originals. It makes me sad whenever I go to an old house and see renovations that destroy the character of the home. Maybe at the very least you could save the tiles you rip out so someone else or future homeowners could use them?

I thought I signed up for the Chicago Spring Cure. I think I did it on the New York post, but it had a list for which city or at least I thought it did. I'm in, and I live in Minnesota.

I'm still a little confused with all the different spots to post. Are we supposed to tag or post our flickr photos to the chicago group or to an overall group?

I screwed up my login, so lhedden should really be lhedden21. It's fun to already have comments on my flickr photos - thanks everyone! I'll try to start commenting on others tonight or later this week.

I'm in! I'm completely addicted to the site, but I've never done an official Cure before. I've been working on decluttering for awhile as part of the process of remodeling our basement. My goals this Cure are to work on improving our landing strip, rearranging our living room furniture, setting up our office to be able to work from home, and organizing our basement.

The basement should be done next week, and we bought a Toto Aquia dual-flush toilet. I'll post a review on how it works once we've used it for awhile.
