Being 'green' month and all, I find it a little strange to see a post that declares that AC is a fact of life in Los Angeles. Dependence on AC is a legacy of bad building design and a strange mentality that altering our living environment for a few degrees of comfort is acceptable, regardless of the cost to the natural environment. Of course, I say this from the relative comfort of a breezy, top-floor apartment in West Hollywood, where I have only turned my AC unit on once over the course of two summers. If I was living in the Valley I might have another opinion entirely... but seriously, learning to live without AC is going to become a necessity.

I am a big fan of the interiors on Dirt. A bit symbolically over the top, but quite fabulous nonetheless.

In the interests of actually engaging with the post, those buildings are all quite lovely, whereas it is really ugly exteriors which all always prompt to ponder 'who would want to live inside that?', and 'could the interior of that building possibly be uglier than the exterior?'

I live in a neighbourhood in West Hollywood which has some charming Old Hollywood-style apartment buildings and sleek mid-century numbers, interspersed with many horrible, offensively ugly, squat 70's travesties of design. I often wonder if I could live in an ugly building if it was exceptionally beautiful inside and very well located, but ultimately I don't think I could live with having to explain to friends and family 'it doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you get inside it's much nicer...'

oh what I could do with $5,000! And I would donate the Pret-a-Habiter consultancy fee to Apartment Therapy instead - I'm not particularly impressed by the finished product.

In two weeks I am moving out of a shared apartment where I don't own a single thing besides my clothes, and into my very own 1 BR apartment. I am hoping to furnish the whole place for $2,000. Well, maybe $2,500.
