I like all these trends, and although I don't have open shelving in my current home, it has worked really well in previous homes. And the con mentioned is not really a con - a correction would be: "all those plastic stadium cups and souvenir pint glasses are FINALLY going to THE SALVATION ARMY (or in the trash) "

Paint the ledge high gloss black (or bright white), have the mirror/art work also framed in black (or white) and do paint all the walls of the room in a bright white (BM decorators white or white heron for example). I think changing the surrounding walls will have the biggest impact.

- for inspiration, look up brick walls on google/pinterest - you will see that white and high gloss black looks amazing with brick.

Well, I disagree, use bigger bins (3 sprouts) for (a)dress-up clothes (b) soccer balls, all kinds of balls, frisbees etc. (c) teddy bears and friends. Then smaller bins/baskets should be dedicated to favorite (groups of) toys (my son's car basket gets emptied at least twice a day/ his playmobile basket at least 3x per week) and art related things. Rest, I agree, Montessori-style can take care of, but it is usually only a handful of items. Some toys just don't seem interesting no matter what the display, and hence should not be kept. Lastly, I have been planning to mark the bins w/ symbols (picture of a car, playmobile figure, etc.) but that is more for other adults to be able to help cleaning up in the event of a "hurricane-effect". My son already knows where everything is/should go.

I did the cure by myself in my last apartment when I bought your book. Reading it again made me realize that I have been basically living by everything in it, both there and at our new place. This means, there is very little "cure" to be done, but I managed to switch my Expedit for Besta (both IKEA), which I've been meaning to do, with good results and reregister some tips in my head.

Next time around, I'll be sure to do more work on my paper work, as I didn't manage to go through old tax files this time around.

Thanks for an inspiring cure!

Love the place, any chance of telling me where the bench came from (only resource not listed, unless I missed it).
Thanks,

I especially like the Panic attack - I would keep it at work for major crisis.

Thanks for your comments, everyone! And thanks for voting on it. I guess we are going for the sectional ;) Most of the comments reflect the general feeling of "anti-sectionalism", which is why we have been having doubts about the setup.

Our art is definitely sort of lost on our wall and we have been thinking about painting so we will take your advice on the color (we have not yet decided on which color for the sofa). There is actually a picture rail about 1' below the ceiling so we would probably paint up to there.

The beddinge sofa has hosted many good visitors during grad school but I will be extremely happy to see it go.

Thanks,
María

Maybe if the walls were off-white or even latte-brown the bench would stand out just as it is. Also, how about a small, round basket on top of the bench (only covering1/3 of the seating space) to catch your mail and keys to keep it clutter free. That way your guests could actually tie their shoelaces?

I love the floor and the whole weed effect - it is warm and cosy.

One thing that always bothers me: changing tables in the US always have you changing the baby from the side - it seems more practical to have the baby facing you.
