A word of warning on the VivaTerra items: I ordered the railroad tie dinner table and the quality was terrible. The frame wasn't square, certain supposed-to-be-predrilled holes were missing, the tabletop didn't fit the frame properly, and the top started splitting when we attempted to attach it to the frame. VivaTerra was accomodating in allowing us to return the piece, but it was a tremendous pain in the ass.

or, you could save $50 or $100 and simply buy a good bag of organic soil and whatever seeds you want and call it square. cast off yogurt or takeout containers work perfectly well for seed starting, and there is no need to get caught up in the accessories. if your apartment is particularly dark or cold, a fluorescent bulb in a cheapo desk lamp will give seedlings extra light.
these kits are cute, but it drives me nuts to see these things marketed as "money savers" when they're filled with useless stuff you don't need to be spending your money on.

this country is, on the whole, way too skittish about things bathroom related.

we definitely let it mellow. keep the lid closed, and clean the toilet regularly (baking soda and vinegar works great) and there should be no ill effects or smells.

ooooh, mango chutney for sure. but i need to make some mango ice cream this summer.

mmmm, i am all about almond/marzipan flavors for the holidays. though, really, i love the stuff year round.
