Yeah, pretty sad you had to leave to stare at your chairs. If my friend told me that I may not ever make plans with them again...my time is way to valuable for that...even though I really love design.

About the knock off vs. authentic thing though...as much as I really love some of the authentic things out there, I don't feel I'm in a place to buy them. Even though I have enough money in the bank right now, to purchase these things would be frivoulous, as we live an apartment, so purchasing really nice items to furnish that space seems somewhat unreasonable, as the layout & size could very likely change. Which brings me to my final point...sure I have the money, but more importantly, we'd like to buy a house, so fancy furnishings that will likely get destroyed in the move anyhow, can wait. I never want to be a slave to anything...clothes, furninshings, a car...none of it. I shot image out of the window a long time ago.

You got my vote, but like the others I would've loved to see pics of the kitchen and bath...I understand it's a bit difficult with the 5 vote restriction.

Ahh yes, those great built-ins. I had practically the same kitchen at an apartment in Milwaukee, except it didn't have that great window over the sink, but it did have an original ceramic sink (with the drying area) and the entry of my kitchen was flanked by built-in on both sides.

One thing I will say about older places is that you just can't replicate that charm. Very cute place, that has a wonderful comfortable feel to it.

Yep, I'd pretty much die to have this space...so inspirational, orderly & creative. If you ever get tired of your studio let me know...I live in LA & would love to work in there...LOL! ;)

I store all of my jewelry in little air-tight plastic bags because it keeps the sterling from tarnishing, my necklaces from tangling, and my earrings paired...plus, when I go on a trip or pack up my stuff to go to the gym (which hasn't been happening enough lately) it's super easy. I go one step further by using a organizer for office goods, that has 4 drawers, and labeling each drawer to hold a different kind of jewelry...makes finding accesories super easy and efficient, but unfortunatley not that pretty...which is ok. I design and make jewelry, so I have ALOT of jewelry...so sometimes efficiency trumps beauty in the organization department.

Good idea @jillshough...which explains why you're a cooking teacher! I'll have to try that the next time I make a batch of soup.

This reminds me of the kitchen I had in my past studio apartment (except mine was super-duper small!). The cupboard doors look the same (mine were made out of metal, which I learned was a great place to post recipes out of the way while cooking/baking). We had literally 1 1/2' x 1 1/2' counter top space, so there was no way a person could cook/bake anything until the dishes were done! Sometimes we actually miss that little place! ;)

I think the duvet cover idea is brilliant...especially on the couch, since you may enjoy your movies with snacks, so being able to wash the cover allows for beauty and convenience!

Great idea @chieromancer! I wish I could take credit for that myself! ;)

The style is great, but the color brings me back to a place I had where the kitchen hadn't been renovated since the 70's (and it wasn't that long ago that I lived there!). I guess what they say is true...hold on to something long enough, and it'll be back in style. This is what they call avocado, which was also available with harvest gold & burnt rust, I just never thought I'd see this come back around again.

Yes, love kraft paper...I use the cardstock version of it for my business tags because it's really warm, gets acoss the idea that my items are hand-made, goes with everything, and most of ll is really affordable!

Loved the idea of using it at the buffet, and just writing on it with a marker..that way you don't have to putz with the little table tent thingys!

I like the storage idea...who can't use extra storage?! The idea of framing it in, and adding a door will make it look much cleaner too.

I was just about to complain about how the holidays are always rough for me because it's go-go-go, and then I saw Rosemary's post, and it definitely gave me a new perspective. When I'm rushing around without a single day off for the next month and half and ready to complain, I'll stop and realize how grateful I am to have a roof over my head, and that my loved ones are safe.

I'm sorry for all you've been through Rosemary...that is terrible.

I have to say I agree with mapchic's comments, and as well as basing it on how long someone will be over (and what they'll potentially see), I also base my level of cleaning with who it is. I also sort of follow Let Get Organized advice, and I keep the clorox wipes in my bathroom cupboard, as these are the best for doing a really quick bathroom wipedown.

I wonder if you couldn't just drill small holes in the sides (to allow for some nails, as they will easily go through wood, but zinc may be a bit tougher), and just hammer some nails in to give it a decorative finish.

This looks like a really cool project...something I'd love to try. Anyone know if a Creme Brulee torch would work? It works for jewelry, so I figured I'd give it a try.
