Seattle has been far and away the hardest city I've ever moved to in terms of making new friends. The Seattle Freeze is definitely a real phenomenon--very noticeable to a girl from Texas! But also, I agree that we're generally more discriminating about who we spend time with as we reach our 30s. If you're into the arts, Seattle has incredibly strong young professionals networks surrounding the opera, the ballet, and the symphony.

I've stopped expecting to find a Seattle BFF, but I have been happy to make many different casual friends to meet up with at different times. That said, count me in for a Seattle AT party :) We can continue the tradition of transplants socializing with other transplants!
