I guess I have to agree with Rita...most of these look cluttered and overdone; almost claustrophobic...not a restful place to actually cook; and I would guess the homeowners actually don't cook. I suppose their decorators sold them every "decorator piece" they could.

Charming. Thank goodness, some soft color in a kitchen - not the stark bare white faddish kitchens you usually show.

This little grinder is great...I've had mine for probably 5 years or so. It is not hard to turn, I don't have to have it plugged in...it grinds the beans for a potful of coffee in less than a minute and it will also fit on a regular mason jar if you ever would break the jar. The rubber thing on the bottom actually fits over the top in use, to keep the beans in while grinding. It's small and fits in my cupboard easily and I can grind coffee even if the electricity goes off.

Hope people have more luck than we have had finding sherry...one clerk at an upscale liquor store told us "Sherry doesn't work here!"
Even Costco or Sam's in this area don't carry it...we had to search for a store that carried a variety of sherry choices - now they have all our business.

I agree on the look...it's great, especially the skylight. However, the layout...does this design team know anything about actual food prep? I'm a food pro, and I can't even picture this layout with a catering team.

It takes 1 1/2 minutes in the microwave to fix 1-minute oats (not packets of instant stuff) right in the bowl; fresh and cheap. My husband prepares it for us most mornings...he keeps the measure right in the canister on the counter. Why would you buy something you have to keep in your precious freezer space and probably not save any more time.?

I walked around our condo and picked up everything washable in the dishwasher; glass coasters, pencil cups, display dishes or bowls, soap dishes, sink strainer-stopper, shower hanging rack, washable drawer dividers (yes, you have to empty your drawers), etc., and ran one big load in the dishwasher - really clean!!
Next, china cabinet!

Don't clean it periodically - date your stuff and use it first.
I keep a basket of "use-it-now" items in the freezer so I check there first. Same with produce - use it up in soup or salads before shopping. That's what's on our menu - what "has" to be used.
I don't have to do much to keep up that way. Why feed the compost bin when I could feed us.

Cute...but if you really want to replace plastic in your fridge - buy clear glass so you can see what's in it. It's hard enough to use up leftovers, without not being able to see what's in the container.

I made this recipe today...I used consomme as I didn't have any wine around we didn't want to drink! I have large pots of rosemary and thyme, and they really added something to this dish.
I made half of a 4# chuck roast last week like "Mom's" and it was stringy and tough - I used the rest for this recipe and the meat was so tender we couldn't believe it was the same roast!! I made homemade mashed potatoes with it and thickened a little of the broth for gravy. We liked the fact that the meat wasn't "boiled" in texture and appearance, but was still meltingly tender. I have already shared it with my sister.
Thanks.

I use the broiler pan and rack that comes with most ovens for roasting turkey...why buy, and more importantly, store, a big roaster? I wrap mine in a plastic bag and store it invisibly, on top of my corner kitchen cabinet the rest of the year.
I keep 2 pastry brushes...one marked for egg washes and one marked for butter, etc.
I haven't found a silicone brush yet that really does a good job except for maybe BBQ sauce.
Absolutely, buy a thermapen if you can - I love mine. But even a cheaper digital instant read thermometer helps a lot. You sure can't count on those pop-up thingies in your turkey!!

Absolutely in the freezer. I keep it right in the bulk bags, unopened. When I need to open one, I move it to a glass jar. I bake all our bread - I have had no problem with 2 year old frozen yeast. One pound bulk bags are soooo much cheaper, especially if purchased at a place like Sam's. If you don't think you'll use that much, at least buy a 4 ounce jar instead of those little, very expensive packets.

We can walk to 2 groceries and a farmer's market on Tuesday and Saturday throughout the fall and summer. We still drive 60 miles 3 or 4 times a year to stock up on staples at a good price. That again is the price of living in a small town in the boonies. However, we can also have our own garden, and can and preserve from it.

I use plain white Corelle too, it's lightweight, lasts forever, and most importantly to me, stacks in a minimum of space. From the perspective of someone who has had a kitchen for years, and gone through lots of different kitchen fads, you can't go wrong with plain white. You never get tired of it. I have given away most of my "fad" dishware...I have one set of good china and plenty of white Corelle.
