Dont get me wrong, these bedrooms are nice and i like this contest more than the others. Saying that, i must say i like this one. If not for one thing: i am not digging all the girlie bedrooms that are showing up. I feel like someone just dropped me back in time, when I was a single girl in my twenties. sorry. Saying that: this one feels grown up and a little manly which i like.

knotty pine furniture. that ugly green paint that bachelors seem to love. Speaking of bachelors, they seem to love black leather couches, too. Sorry guys. Grown women who decorate just for women. yuk. you know, too girly. (i see a lot of that o n this site. sorry love AT. but i do). furniture that's too matchy matchy. Brass fixtures. Too much victorian or midcentury modern (and i love a little midcentury modern). Furniture that looks like you just grabbed it from the street. (ok, glad you dumpster dived, but please clean it up. fix it. make it nice). Homes that are decorated with family photos. a few ok. But really? And area rugs that are too small. My biggest pet peeve, wall to wall carpet..Oh one more thing. Granite countertops. Eeeeekkkkk. Sorry, you asked and now i am venting. Lunch time is over. Great post.

This is really really lovely as is. A very nice piece. If i were going to make any change — I would only paint it light gray or a beautiful white or a chalk black or a black blue. I wouldn't hack for hack sake.

Nice post and beautifully done. I have thought of this for years. Once, when i was about 32 years old...i had a big party. some of the young workers came through and said your home is so grownup. It was such a compliment. When i was in my twenties, i hung out with a crew of friends who loved furniture and they all bought homes by the time they were 28. they spent weekends collecting great, grown up furniture. i bought a condo when i was 38 years old. But i had collected nice furniture and bought other pieces that have lasted the test of time. I still go to ikea but my couches, and beds and chairs and tables are from places like DWR and Room and Board or antiques or vintage...strong and grownup. It feels wonderful to l ive in a grownup house. i advise everyone to try it.
