100% guilty. It's a slow spiral, but it generally ends with my husband suggesting I eat something and me trying to take his head off. I try to stave it off as much as possible at work by keeping snacks in my desk drawer, but it's usually on the weekends when we're running around doing errands or cleaning or something mundane and I've forgotten to nibble and start lashing out. I should keep a granola bar around for emergencies.

1 tablespoon of flax meal mixed with 3 tablespoons water, let sit for 5-10 minutes. Super easy, plus it adds a slight flavor that really complements some recipes.

The juicer. Everything rinses right off right after you're done, but if you leave it, everything sticks and looks gross to boot.

It's a running joke now, but I had a guacamole accident before I learned the proper way to get the seed out. Hint: it's not stabbing directly down at the pit with a paring knife.

I'm more of a burn-prone person in the kitchen, but I'm really nervous around sweet potatoes and squashes, which I LOVE.

No mention of the Harpoon Brewery down at the waterfront? I love me some Sam Adams and all, but Harpoon definitely needs a mention, too! Their festivals are a BLAST, and they have all sorts of perks for their Friends of Harpoon cardholders.

Two things I miss about working in Boston: Flour and Channel Cafe (fun cafe/gallery combo on Summer St.). YUM.

@greenandlean: we used to have Cheerios, too! I'm a fan of almonds, dark chocolate, and cranberries, myself, but I wouldn't say no to a big ol' mix. My only hangup is that I only like one kind of nuts at once... almonds or peanuts or cashews, etc. I wind up eating them separately if they're all mixed together!

Great post! I work for a company that develops treatments for tree health care (seriously!) and I can't stress enough the importance of planting native species and not planting a monoculture. Dutch Elm Disease devastated the American Elm not too long ago, and Emerald Ash Borer is doing the same to ash trees. Your local extension agent (most likely at the state university) is a GREAT resource for planting just about anything!

A bunch of tree geeks (consumers and companies alike) chat on Twitter on Tuesdays at 2pm EST using #treechat if you're up for learning a whole bunch about trees. Check it out-- there's tons of great info.

I love the original-- adorable and functional! Truth be told, I want it for my office, since I work in the tree care industry. How fun! Still, $850? Even shy of $300 for a (much less attractive) knockoff? Quick, someone DIY!

Looks delish! Is it me, or are the main photos from The Kitchn/ AT/ oh dee oh not coming up in Google Reader anymore? Major bummer if that's a permanent change!

As someone who has the full 5-gal Complete Homebrewing kit, I'd love the single gallon kit for experimenting. I'd feel a lot better about not liking a batch! Also, grolsch bottles, growlers, bottle caps, and carboys make excellent accessory gifts!

I love it when people gift me beer to try! I've been paid in beer for babysitting (partially, at least!) and my favorite engagement gift was a selection of beers with names that reminded the other couple of us.

My parents always asked my brother and I for a "wish list." It was understood that there was no way we'd receive everything on it, but it at least gave them some direction. And panic, when during my early-teen angst I asked for a boyfriend. Neither here nor there!

My husband and I find ourselves amidst a pile of random stuff after the holidays because family members don't know what to buy us. We'd rather nothing, but now that they've asked for suggestions, we're giving them. And emphasizing that gift cards to specific stores aren't cop-outs, really!

Ooooh! And chips on a PB&J or tuna sandwich. YUM. Bonus points for ruffles.

Why Everyone Thinks I Eat My Pancakes Weird

I always mix my mashed potatoes and peas. Almost every time I make mashed potatoes (one of my favorites) I have to make peas to mix in.

We always stored the ketchup in the cabinet, not the fridge. I don't much care either way, but my hubby likes it cold and my mother considered it base treachery that I changed haha And I like mushy fries much better than crispy ones.

I don't like my foods touching (except for the mashed potato/peas thing), but I'm working on it. Salad needs its own plate or bowl.

I only like stuffing when it's drenched in gravy.

No mushrooms, ever. I keep trying them, though, just to see if I can trick myself into liking them. I get the sense I'm really missing out on something great, but I can't get past the texture!

My brother's friend used to put American cheese on his Cheerios and chocolate syrup on his pancakes. ::shudder::

I think it's cute! Of course, it's probably better served as a bassinet rather than a cradle since I can't image a rolling/squirming/starting to become mobile baby being all that safe. Once the baby outgrows the sleeping function, though, it'd be super-cute for storing toys and stuffed animals.

My hubby and I face this too, even though we don't have kids. We've gotten to a point where we despise "stuff" for the sake of having it, and giving random stuff for the sake of giving it. Thankfully, our parents all appreciate a wish list, so we can indicate items and experiences we'd like so we aren't saddled with random tchochkes, like striped toe socks and our 15th ice scraper.

I hosted Thanksgiving for the first time last year and did the whole shebang. It was the first time I'd roasted a turkey and it came out great, so now I have to try to remember which technique I used. Wish I'd had Pinterest then!

Shipyard's good, but I find it gets to be really sweet really fast.

I'm DYING to try Harpoon's Pumpkin UFO (Harpoon's one of my favorite overall breweries) and Dogfish's Punkin.

This season, I tried Post Road Pumpkin Ale and have determined that to be my favorite-- still tastes like beer, but with a little pumpkin spice finish at the end, not overpowering at all.

I wait as long as possible to turn the heat on. Last year, I turned it on October 22-- and only because everyone at my house getting ready for my wedding was complaining ;)

It's been really chilly the past couple nights here near Boston, but I love cozying up in sweats and snuggling on the couch! Getting out of a nice warm bed in the morning is really tough though.

We're in a new place without a programmable thermostat (making a case to get one installed soon)... anyone have tips for managing an older thermostat for comfort and heat savings?

When Do You Decide to Turn on the Heat?

Brussels sprouts sauteed with bacon and onions... YUM. I do spinach that way, too, since I think it's a little boring most other ways I've had it. I'm in the same boat as @asmallcontempt, that I haven't really experimented with too many veggies outside what my mom always made, but I'm definitely trying!

I keep trying beets, hoping I'll like them, but no-go. Same for mushrooms, unfortunately. I see these amazing recipes with portabellas and criminis and all sorts of exotic looking things, but I can't get past the rubbery texture. I struggle with eggplant, too... another texture thing. Thankfully, my hubby's open to experimenting and usually winds up having the same opinion I do. Whew!

Also... for an awesome cocktail (hot or cold), just add some Crown Royal to your cider. I don't drink the Crown otherwise, but always have some on hand for these. YUMMM!
