I find them helpful if they truly introduce the recipe--like if they offer a good summary of the cooking process, or suggestions for multitasking, especially for a long or complex recipe (i.e. "do X while Y is simmering.") If it's an ethnic recipe, something about the culture is nice, or if the recipe has some historical significance. I find I am rarely interested in the inspiration unless it's a really good story.

The reason eating half a grapefruit before a meal helps you lose weight is because you simply begin eating--and digesting--sooner. Therefore you feel satisfied earlier in your meal and don't eat as much. Any fruit or vegetable would work. The key is high fiber and low calories. Try an apple or a banana instead, if you prefer, or even just an orange.

I've frozen guacamole with no ill effects, but it was not homemade, and I don't know if there was some additive that may have protected it.

I would think with that many avocados, it's worth at least trying overnight, just to see if it works!

I marinate chicken in either plain yogurt or buttermilk. Overnight is great, 8 hours is fine, even an hour is better than nothing. And it doesn't taste like yogurt or buttermilk. Then season and cook as usual.
